- Petralona Cave - Located 50 km from Thessaloniki, Petralona Cave was discovered by chance by villagers from Petralona searching for groundwater. In 1960, they found a skull of a man aged between 25-35 years, considered quite old for the primitive era. This skull is of an archanthropus type, representing a transitional form between Homo erectus and Homo sapiens neandertalensis. The fossilized skull is of great anthropological importance, though experts have not reached a unanimous classification. Paleoanthropologist Aris Poulianos suggests the skull belonged to a man who lived 700,000 years ago, with fire traces dating back 700,000-1,000,000 years, the oldest ever found on earth. Numerous stone and bone tools were also discovered, along with fire traces used for warmth and cooking.
- Sani - After exploring Petralona Cave, a visit to the stunning Halkidiki is next, with its three peninsulas (Kassandra, Sithonia, Mount Athos) located southeast of Thessaloniki. This area is a popular tourist destination, attracting thousands of visitors annually. It boasts lush greenery, expansive beaches, crystal-clear waters, delicious cuisine with traditional dishes, charming small bays and islands, remarkable archaeological sites, and vibrant nightlife. A visit to Sani Resort offers a chance to enjoy coffee at its beautiful yacht marina with views of Mount Olympus.
- Afytos - Following the visit to the luxurious Sani Resort, the journey continues to the traditional village of Afitos, known for its cobblestone streets, stone-built houses, and stunning balcony views of Toronaios Gulf. Visitors can savor local cuisine at one of Afitos’ restaurants before heading back to Thessaloniki.
