Morning Glory: Embrace the Clear Skies
As the sun rises over Phakding on April 19th, the skies are clear, offering a perfect start for early morning exploration. The temperature is warm, reaching up to 37.1°C, so make sure to slather on that sunscreen and keep hydrated. This is the ideal time to embark on the Gokyo Valley Trek and experience the stunning scenery that rivals the more famous Everest Base Camp trek. The trail to Gokyo Valley is a breathtaking journey through the Khumbu region, where you’ll be surrounded by towering peaks and the serene beauty of the Dudh Koshi River.
The trek begins in Lukla, a quaint mountain town known as the gateway to the Everest region. As you make your way to Phakding, the first overnight stop, you’ll be enveloped by pine forests and mountain vistas. The tranquility of this charming village provides the perfect atmosphere for rest and acclimatization before continuing your adventure. The morning is the best time to enjoy this trek, as the weather is clear and the views are unobstructed.
Afternoon Adventures: Dance with the Rain
As the day progresses, the weather in Phakding takes a dramatic turn. By late morning, clouds roll in, bringing with them a persistent rain that continues into the afternoon. This is when the dynamic climate of Phakding truly reveals itself. While outdoor activities might seem less appealing, the rain adds a mystical quality to the landscape, transforming the trails into a lush, vibrant wonderland.
For those who are undeterred by the rain, the Everest Base Camp Trek offers a thrilling adventure. Starting from Lukla, this trek leads you to the heights of Kalapatthar, offering breathtaking views of Mount Everest. The journey is enriched by the warm hospitality of the Sherpa villages along the way. The gentle rush of the Dudhkoshi River accompanies you, creating a memory you’ll cherish forever. The rain might make the trek more challenging, but it also adds an element of excitement and unpredictability.
Reviewed at 2024-11-19: Best company with good guide/portar. I have done lots of research online, and so confused which treks company to choose for the EBC trek and chola pass (gokyo). With some good reviews that I have found on the internet I choose the himalayan scenery and in fact it is way better than the review.
Evening Serenity: A Snowy Embrace
As evening falls, the weather in Phakding continues to surprise. The rain gives way to snow, with snow depth reaching up to 0.8 cm. The temperature drops, and the landscape is blanketed in a serene layer of white. This is the perfect time to cozy up in one of the local teahouses, where you can enjoy a warm meal and reflect on the day’s adventures.
The following day, April 20th, begins with a mix of snow and rain, but by mid-morning, the skies clear, offering another opportunity to explore the region. The Gokyo Valley Trek and Everest Base Camp Trek are both available, providing a chance to experience the dynamic climate of Phakding in all its glory. As the day progresses, the weather transitions from rain to clear skies, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
