The Independence Palace - Encircled by royal palm trees, this landmark government building showcases the distinctive 1960s architecture and the intriguing atmosphere of its deserted halls. The first Communist tanks arrived here on April 30, 1975, and it feels as though time has stood still since then. The building is closely linked to the fall of the city in 1975, yet it’s the kitsch detailing and period motifs that captivate visitors. Also known as the Independence Palace, it was the residence of South Vietnamese President Nguyen Van Thieu until his hurried departure in 1975. Designed by Paris-trained Vietnamese architect Ngo Viet Thu, it exemplifies 1960s architecture with its airy and open design. The Reunification Palace, also known as Independence Palace, is a must-see national monument in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City.

Central Post Office - This iconic French-era post office is a classic of its time, designed by Marie-Alfred Foulhoux (though often attributed to Gustave Eiffel) and constructed between 1886 and 1891. A mosaic of Ho Chi Minh proudly adorns the end of its barrel-vaulted hall.
The post office boasts a unique, bright yellow exterior with white trim. Curved windows are elegantly framed with green shutters, and a large clock is prominently displayed at the main entrance. The stunning, spacious interior features tall, domed ceilings with metal arches and a beautiful patterned tile floor. Inside, there are two painted maps: “Lignes télégraphiques du Sud Vietnam et du Cambodge 1892” (Telegraphic lines of southern Vietnam and Cambodia 1892) depicting the postal route from southern Vietnam to Cambodia, and “Saigon et ses environs, 1892” (Saigon and its surroundings), a local map.
- History Museum of Ho Chi Minh City - Built in 1929, this notable Sino-French museum houses a rewarding collection of artifacts illustrating the evolution of Vietnam’s cultures, from the Bronze Age Dong Son civilization (emerging in 2000 BCE) and the Funan civilization (1st to 6th centuries CE) to the Cham, Khmer, and Vietnamese. Highlights include valuable relics from Cambodia’s Angkor Wat and a fine collection of Buddha statues. English information is available, and parts of the museum are undergoing renovation.
The museum also features a perfectly preserved mummy of a local woman who died in 1869, excavated from Xom Cai in District 5, and exquisite stylized mother-of-pearl Chinese characters inlaid into panels. It is located beside the Botanical Gardens.
The museum also encompasses the diverse cultures of ethnic groups in Southern Vietnam and other Asian countries. Visitors can explore their clothing, unique musical instruments, statues of deities, and tools related to agriculture, hunting, and fishing.
- Vietnam Lacquerware - Lacquer is actually the resin of a tree mixed with colored pigments and solvents, applied layer by layer to an object’s surface, resulting in a shiny and durable finish. Eggshell and mother of pearl may be applied to the surface before the lacquer, with the finished product sanded down to reveal the decoration beneath.
The high quality of resin from Vietnamese lacquer trees, particularly those in Phu Tho, was a crucial factor in the rapid development of this art form during the feudal period. Decorated lacquer statues, panels, boxes, and trays (1428-1527) can still be seen at many temples and pagodas.
In subsequent centuries, the use of lacquerware extended to larger items such as wooden chairs and tables.
Since then, lacquerware has continued to develop into a mainstay of the Vietnamese handicraft industry, both domestically and internationally. Today’s most popular items include vases, jewel cases, desk sets, trays, and vertical blinds.
- Khách sạn Bông Sen Sài Gòn - First introduced in Vietnam over a decade ago in 1998, Ganh Bong Sen Buffet offers the perfect balance between traditional Vietnamese cuisine and a Western-style buffet.
The hand-painted mural features images of many popular dishes typically found at open marketplaces in provincial towns, such as banh canh, banh xeo, banh khot, bun rieu, and bun mam, to name a few.
At the Ganh Bong Sen Buffet, creative, talented, and experienced chefs elevate these common traditional dishes into symbols of culinary excellence with a taste that is both distinctive and familiar to connoisseurs of Vietnamese delicacies.
It’s no surprise that many visit Ganh Bong Sen Buffet to savor the characteristic flavors of the three regions. Experience the culture of Vietnam and be satisfied. At Ganh Bong Sen Buffet, every meal is a feast for the gods.
- Emperor Jade Pagoda - Built in 1909 in honor of the supreme Jade Emperor (King of Heaven), this is one of the most atmospheric temples in Ho Chi Minh City, filled with statues of phantasmal divinities and grotesque heroes.
The pungent smoke of incense fills the air, obscuring the exquisite woodcarvings. Its roof is adorned with elaborate tile work, and the temple’s statues, depicting characters from both Buddhist and Taoist lore, are made from reinforced papier-mâché.
The temple’s multifaith nature is reflected in its alternative name, Phuoc Hai Tu, which conveys a Buddhist message. Similarly, the Chinese characters in the main temple hall mean ‘The light of Buddha shines on all.’
Over 100 years have passed with many changes, yet Jade Emperor Pagoda retains its timeless charm. Its beauty is a harmonious blend of the three main religions in the Orient: Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism.
Thanks to its impressive and unique beauty with sacred legends, this is one of the most wonderful destinations.
- U.S. Consulate General - The United States Embassy in Saigon was first established in June 1952, moved into a new building in 1967, and eventually closed in 1975. The embassy was the site of several significant events during the Vietnam War, most notably the Viet Cong attack during the Tet Offensive, which helped turn American public opinion against the war, and the helicopter evacuation during the Fall of Saigon, after which the embassy closed permanently.
In 1995, the U.S. and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam formally established relations, and the embassy grounds and building were returned to the United States. The former embassy was subsequently demolished in 1998 and is now a park within the U.S. Consulate General’s compound in what is now called Ho Chi Minh City.
- SPCT port - Established in June 2007, Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park Company (HIPC) covers a total area of 1,686 hectares. This strategic location is prioritized for the development of Ho Chi Minh City’s port industry, equipped with modern infrastructure and essential conditions for investors to enhance their capabilities and boost production. The zone offers significant strengths to develop various competitive advantages.
Three international ports operate within HIPC: Tan Cang - Hiep Phuoc port (15 hectares), Saigon Premier Container Terminal - SPCT (40 hectares), and Saigon - Hiep Phuoc port (54 hectares). In the future, all inner-city ports will be relocated to Hiep Phuoc port (approximately 384.7 hectares), and together with HIPC (stage 3, approximately 392.8 hectares), this area is designated as the Central Logistic hub, serving as the transportation and shipping center for the entire region.
