Royal Palace - Today, our tour will commence at 8:00 AM. We will pick up your group from your hotel to visit the Royal Palace of the Cambodian King and his family.

The Royal Palace, located in the heart of Phnom Penh, boasts a main entrance that faces the picturesque banks of the Tonle Chaktomuk River. It serves as the principal residence of Their Majesties the King, the Queen, and the Royal Family. Originally known as Preah Borom Reach Veang Chaktomuk Monkul, the palace derives its name from its strategic position at the confluence of four rivers: the Upper Mekong, Tonle Sap, Tonle Basak, and Lower Mekong. Silver Pagoda - The Royal Throne Hall, known as Preah Tineang Tevea Vinichhay, was inaugurated on June 16, 1919, by His Majesty King Sisowath. Beng Mealea - Today at 8 a.m., we will check out and then continue our journey to visit the Prasat Beng Mealea jungle temple and the O Thmar Dab ancient quarry center.

Beng Mealea is one of the most popular remote jungle temples in Cambodia, located northeast of Siem Reap city, approximately 66 kilometers by road. This incredible ruin remains in its original, unaltered condition, untouched by restoration and conservation projects. As a result, it offers visitors a unique glimpse into the past, showcasing the beauty of nature reclaiming the temple.

Beng Mealea has become a popular tourist destination in Siem Reap, attracting those who seek to explore its mysterious atmosphere and intricate stone carvings. The temple is surrounded by lush jungle, adding to its enchanting allure and providing a perfect backdrop for photography and exploration.

After visiting Beng Mealea, we will proceed to the O Thmar Dab ancient quarry center, where we can learn about the historical significance of Khmer Empire.

Kompong Khleang - After your tour of Beng Mealea temple, we will drive southward to visit the beautiful Kompong Khleang fishing community and the Tonle Sap Great Lake. Here, you will have the opportunity to gain new experiences with local fishing families and explore their remarkable stilted houses, which resemble the skyscrapers of the local people. Some of these houses are even floating, adapting to the seasonal changes of the lake’s water levels.

Kompong Khleang is one of the largest fishing communities on Tonle Sap, and it offers a unique glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of the residents who rely on fishing for their livelihood. As we navigate through the village, you will witness the daily activities of the fishermen, learn about their sustainable practices, and understand the importance of the lake to their culture and economy.

Tonle Sap Great Lake is not only a vital resource for the local communities but also a significant ecotourism destination in Cambodia.

Bakong - Now, in terms of tourism, Rolous is a group of Angkor temples that served as the second largest capital city of the Khmer Empire from 805 to 905 A.D. It is home to many ruins, but the major temples for tourists to visit and explore are Lolei, Preah Ko, and Bakong Temple. All of these temples are fine and impressive!

In 802 A.D., the first king of Angkor, Jayavarman II, declared the sovereignty of Cambodia. After experiencing various ups and downs, he established his capital at Hariharalaya. A few decades later, his successors constructed Bakong in stages as the first temple mountain made of sandstone at Angkor. The inscription on its stele (classified as K.826) states that in 881, King Indravarman I dedicated the temple to the god Shiva and consecrated its central religious image, a lingam named Sri Indresvara. This name is a combination of the king’s own name and the suffix “-esvara,” which refers to Shiva (“Iśvara”). According to George Coedès, the devarāja cult embodies the idea.

Preah Ko - Preah Ko, meaning “The Sacred Bull,” was the inaugural temple constructed in the ancient and now-defunct city of Hariharalaya, located in what is today known as Roluos, approximately 15 kilometers southeast of the main group of temples at Angkor, Cambodia. This temple was commissioned by the Khmer King Indravarman I in 879 to honor members of the royal family, establishing their connection to the Hindu deity Shiva.

Following the establishment of the Khmer Empire by King Jayavarman II in 802 A.D., he designated Hariharalaya as his capital, where he ultimately passed away. Indravarman I, the nephew of Jayavarman II, ascended to the throne and initiated the construction of Preah Ko, which was consecrated in 879. He later commissioned the temple-mountain known as Bakong. This ambitious building program was likely made feasible by the king’s peaceful reign and his capacity to generate revenue from the expanding empire. Lolei - Lolei is the northernmost temple of the Roluos group, a collection of three late 9th-century Hindu temples located at Angkor, Cambodia, alongside Preah Ko and Bakong. As the last of the three temples constructed as part of the once-thriving city of Hariharalaya, Lolei was dedicated to Shiva and members of the royal family by the Khmer king Yasovarman I in 893. The name “Lolei” is believed to be a modern corruption of the ancient name “Hariharalaya,” which translates to “the city of Harihara.”

Originally an island temple, Lolei was situated on an island slightly north of the center of the now-dry Indratataka baray, the construction of which had nearly been completed under Yasovarman’s father and predecessor, Indravarman I. Scholars suggest that the temple’s placement on an island within a body of water symbolically linked it to Mount Meru, the abode of the gods in Hindu mythology, which is surrounded by the cosmic oceans.

Tonle Sap Lake - Tonle Sap Great Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, located in central Cambodia. It plays a crucial role in the region’s ecology and economy, supporting a rich biodiversity and providing livelihoods for millions. The lake is known for its remarkable seasonal fluctuations, expanding dramatically during the monsoon season and shrinking in the dry months, which creates a unique ecosystem.
