Wat Phanan Choeng Worawihan - Constructed in 1324, Wat Phanan Choeng predates the establishment of Ayutthaya’s capital by 26 years. The grand image hall contains a seated Buddha statue measuring 19 meters in height and 20 meters in width at the lap. Made from bricks and plaster, the Buddha is coated with black lacquer and gold. Revered as a protector of mariners, it underwent numerous restorations until the fall of the Ayutthaya kingdom, when both the temple and Buddha were destroyed by fire.
