Mihintale - Mihintale is a mountain near Anuradhapura with significant spiritual importance to Buddhists. It is believed that a Buddhist monk named Mahinda met King Devanampiyatissa here, introducing Buddhism to the country. Impressed by the monk’s peacefulness, the King renounced war and spread peace throughout the nation. The mountain and its surroundings feature several impressive religious and historical structures, attracting hundreds of pilgrims annually.

Polonnaruwa Vatadage - Polonnaruwa, the second oldest kingdom in Sri Lanka, is renowned for its ancient garden city ruins. The 12th-century ruins are among the best-preserved in the country. Kandy Lake Club - Cultural Dance Show - The Kandyan Cultural Show in Kandy town showcases various forms of Kandyan dancing, originally from the area but now widespread across the island. Originating from a dance by Indian shamans, Kandyan dancing is integral to Sri Lankan culture and a highlight of perahera processions. The show features dances depicting birds and animals’ graceful movements and energetic acrobatic performances, including the dramatic ‘fire walk’ finale.
Temple of the Tooth & Peradeniya Gardens (Overnight in Kandy)
Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - The Temple of the Tooth is a highly sacred site, housing one of Buddha’s teeth. Legend says the tooth was taken from Buddha on his deathbed and smuggled to Sri Lanka in a princess’s hair. It became an object of great importance, celebrated and paraded throughout history, despite attempts to steal or destroy it. Twice daily, pujas celebrate the relic, offering visitors a glimpse of the tooth within its casing.
Royal Botanical Gardens - Located just outside Kandy, the Royal Botanical Gardens are Sri Lanka’s largest landscaped gardens, covering over 60 hectares. Established in 1843 by the British, the gardens feature plants from across the island and Kew Gardens in London. Home to 4,000 plant species and over 10,000 trees, the gardens showcase Sri Lanka’s flora and many tropical plants. Walk through avenues of coconut palms, shelter under the Javan fig tree, admire the orchid collection, and see giant fruit bats in the treetops.
Ceylon Tea Museum - The Ceylon Tea Museum is in the former Hanthana Tea Factory, built in 1925, 3 km south of Kandy. Hanthana was among the first successful tea cultivation areas after coffee production failed on the island.
White Water Rafting & Adam’s Peak (Overnight at Adam’s Peak)

Adam’s Peak (Sri Pada) - At Adam’s Peak’s summit is a footprint cast in stone, spiritually significant to various religions. Currently, a Buddhist monastery is at the summit. Buddhists believe the footprint is Buddha’s; Christians, Adam’s; and Hindus, Shiva’s. The site is a popular pilgrimage destination, especially on full moon nights. The trek involves a steep staircase of over 5,000 steps, lined with tea stalls and food shops. Most start the hike at 2:30 am to reach the summit for sunrise. The season is December to April, with the offseason climb being challenging.
Horton Plains (Overnight at Nuwara Eliya)
Gregory Lake - Gregory Lake, or Gregory Reservoir, is in the heart of Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka’s tea country hill city. Constructed during British Governor Sir William Gregory’s period in 1873.
Nuwara Eliya - Nuwara Eliya city tour. Known for its tea, Nuwara Eliya is the ideal place to learn about tea production. With a temperate climate and 1,900 meters elevation, it’s the country’s tea capital. Tour a tea plantation and see tea production. Founded in the 19th century, this hill town became a British colonists’ retreat, earning the nickname Little England. April is a great time to visit for blossoms and Sri Lanka New Year celebrations. Devon Falls - Devon Falls, the ‘Veil of the Valley’, is a waterfall in Sri Lanka, 6 km west of Talawakele, Nuwara Eliya District on the A7 highway. Named after an English coffee planter, Devon, whose plantation was nearby.

The town maintains its originality and rural charm while catering to tourists during peak seasons.
Little Adam’s Peak & Nine Arch Bridge (Overnight at Ella)
Little Adam’s Peak View Point - Little Adam’s Peak offers a relatively easy climb with sensational views. Start with a gentle walk through a sloping tea field, passing terraced tea plants, before ascending winding steps to the peak. Enjoy a spectacular panorama of Ella Rock, tea fields, and the Ella gap, a deep gorge leading to the southern valleys. On clear days, see the south coast and ocean on the horizon.

Buduruwagala Temple - Buduruwagala features ancient rock carvings near Welawaya, dating back to the 8th century. Seven gigantic Buddhist figures are sculpted into a 70ft cliff, including a colossal 50ft image of Lord Buddha.
Yala National Park - Yala National Park offers breathtaking vistas and abundant Sri Lankan wildlife. It has the world’s highest leopard density, making sightings likely. Leopards are the main attraction, followed by elephants, sloth bears, and crocodiles. The park, divided into five blocks, was zoned for hunters until becoming a national park in 1938. Visit the informative visitor center at the entrance for insightful displays about the area.

Whale Watching & Cinnamon Experience (Overnight in Galle)
Whale Watching Mirissa with Kumara - Whale and dolphin watching in Mirissa is an exciting water activity during a Sri Lankan beach holiday. Mirissa is the best starting point for whale and dolphin tours. In the warm Indian Ocean, see Blue whales, Bryde’s whales, Sperm whales, Fin whales, sometimes Killer whales, and various dolphins. Occasionally, turtles and fish like Bluefin tuna and flying fish are spotted. The boat departs from Mirissa harbor at 6:00 am, with tours lasting 3-5 hours, depending on whale sightings and passenger wishes. Swimming with whales and dolphins is not allowed. Breakfast is provided on the boat.
Stilt Fishermen Sri Lanka - Stilt fishing, a unique Sri Lankan tradition, requires patience. Fishermen cast lines from high positions, waiting for fish. This method targets small fish and involves hours of silence. Fishermen without modern equipment use stilts made by tying a crossbar to a pole and a fishing rod, skills passed down through generations.
Galle Fort & Sea Turtle Hatchery (Overnight in Colombo)
Galle Fort - Galle Fort’s cobblestoned alleyways and streets are filled with modern restaurants, hotels, and shops. Snake charmers and buskers line the seawall. Originally a basic fort by the Portuguese in 1505, the Dutch improved it, including the enormous sea wall. Galle Fort exemplifies the synthesis of European and Asian architecture.
Madu River Safari Ruwa/Ruwa River Safari - The Madu Ganga River is a complex coastal ecosystem of mangroves and islands, possibly one of Sri Lanka’s last pristine mangrove forests. A boat trip reveals hundreds of plant and animal species, including monkeys, water monitor lizards, and various birds. The river and lagoon have around 64 islands, from tiny shrines to one housing 250 families connected by a long footbridge. Visit an island with a Buddhist monastery, where monks show a 150-year-old palm leaf book and cook on cinnamon wood. Local inhabitants produce cinnamon and prawn fish. Evening trips reveal fishermen lighting lanterns to attract shellfish.
Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project - The sea turtle hatchery aims to monitor and conserve local nesting sites. The hatchery allows collected and rescued eggs to hatch safely before release into the sea. Some hatchlings are kept for ‘head starting’ before release. The program maximizes hatchlings reaching the sea and surviving early life stages.
