Cusco (3300 m a.s.l.) – Cloud Forest (1700 m a.s.l.) – Pilcopata Lodge (600 m a.s.l.)
Pillcopata - Departing from Cusco early in the morning in a private vehicle, the journey will take us through stunning valleys nestled between the Andes Mountains and charming rural communities. We will explore pre-Inca tombs of the Lupaca culture and make a stop in Paucartambo, a delightful colonial town, to visit its small yet captivating museum. Lunch will be enjoyed in the cloud forest.
Continuing our descent through this vibrant ecosystem, home to unique species like the spectacled bear and the Andean cock-of-the-rock—Peru’s national bird known for its distinctive mating dance—we may also encounter orchids, bromeliads, ferns, and more. The journey offers breathtaking natural vistas until we reach Pilcopata Lodge, where we will spend our first night.
Pilcopata – Amazon EcoLodge (450 m a.s.l.)
Manu National Park - Following an early breakfast, a walk will allow us to observe forest wildlife such as monkeys and birds. We will then visit a coca plantation and a wildlife rescue center. Our journey continues to Puerto Atalaya, situated on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River (500 m a.s.l.), where we will embark on a boat trip. As we travel downstream, a diverse array of birds, including herons, vultures, and cormorants, can be seen until we arrive at Amazon Manu Lodge.
Here, guests can enjoy a refreshing swim in the river and lunch. In the afternoon, a visit to a nearby swamp will reveal toucans, woodpeckers, macaws, and other species. After dinner, we will venture out again to spot the glowing eyes of caimans in the night. Overnight stay at the lodge.
Amazon Manu Lodge (450 m a.s.l.)
Manu National Park - Early morning, we will take a boat to the Macaw Clay Lick, a riverside wall where various parrot species—such as the blue-headed parrot, white-eyed parakeet, and the red-fronted macaw—gather each morning to consume mineral-rich clay that aids digestion and detoxification. Breakfast will be served back at the lodge.
Later, a 2.5- to 3-hour hike through the forest will be followed by lunch and time to relax or swim in the river. Guests may also opt for a complimentary zipline experience.
In the afternoon, we will visit Machuwasi Lake, exploring it on wooden rafts to observe birds like the hoatzin and, with some luck, monkeys or capybaras. After sunset, a night walk will allow us to observe insects, amphibians, and other nocturnal wildlife. Dinner and overnight at Amazon Manu Lodge.
Manu National Park - Optional Free Activity: Canopy Zipline
Guests can partake in an unforgettable Amazon canopy adventure, gliding between treetop platforms using high-quality, safe equipment, followed by a 20-meter rappel descent back to the forest floor.
Amazon EcoLodge – Cusco
Cusco - After a delightful breakfast, time will be spent observing hummingbirds around the lodge before boarding the boat back to Puerto Atalaya. A private bus will be ready to transport us back to Cusco. Lunch will be provided along the way, with an expected arrival between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm.
