Great experience - Fantastic experience. From the moment we were picked up from our hotel, we knew we were in good hands with Ana. The itinerary was great, fitting in a very short stop to Amarante to pick up a pastry, 2 vineyard tours with lunch (you don't get to go to the vines themselves, the tour is of the cellars/garden) and a boat tour. The first vineyard was Fonseca, a more commercial set-up and the secone with Santa Julia, a family run one. It was good to have the two different experiences. The boat tour was just right, in a smaller boat with another group and the boat guide was good fun. Ana was really friendly and open to questions. She kept us informed of the itinerary and on track. Amarante is worth a separate half day trip if you have time, as you only get to stop there for about 15-20 minutes and it's beautiful. We appreciated that wouldn't have been able to stay longer and fit everything else in on this tour.

Fantastic tour of the Douro Valley - Our tour guide, Miguel, was outstanding. He shared his vast knowledge of port wine production as well as Portuguese history and other interesting topics. The quintas that we visited were very scenic with beautiful facilities, and the boat ride was very enjoyable, also with an excellent guide. The wine tastings and lunch were very enjoyable as well. The tour couldn't have been better.

Book Ana NOW! - I have been on many Douro River Valley Tours so I was looking for a different experience. Ana Alves came highly recommended so I booked a day trip with her. My concerns were to make sure we weren't going to Quintas (wineries, farms) that I had been to before. First stop was the quaint town of Aramante. It's very picturesque with a cool bridge and lots of photo ops. We went to two family owned Quintas and tasted outstanding wines. Lunch was at one of the Quintas and it was really delicious!. There was an array of appetizers including fresh bread with olive oil made there; soup; and spoon tender pork that was to die for! When we got home, everyone in our group wished we had thought to ask if we could get some to go. It was that good! We also did a one hour boat ride on the Douro River. Again with a different company than I gone with previously. The crew was entertaining so it didn't feel repetitious for me. And Ana is a delight. We opted for a small group tour instead of a private one. We were paired with an interesting group and had a lot of fun. Ana is now my go to for booking tours from Porto. Visitors have already taken our advice and have booked a trip with Ana in a couple of weeks. I believe she can also design different tours if desired. Maybe you desire a schist village visit or some other out of the way place. I'm sure Ana can help.

Relaxing Day in the Countryside - I was so happy that I booked the Small Group Tour to the Douro Valley. Pedro Teixeira was our driver and guide. Victoria was in training. Pedro picked us up at our hotel on time. The two other couples in the van were lovely. First, we stopped in Amarante for market day for some independent strolling and shopping. Doces falicos are their iconic pastries. The tour and luncheon at Quinta de Santa Julia was wonderful. The air was perfumed by the orange blossoms. We were fortunate to have good weather for the river cruise by Douro Cruise. The vistas are breathtaking. Bruno was a very funny guide and Diego was a skilled captain. The port wine was an added surprise. I highly recommend this tour. It was such a relaxing day after aspending a very busy day in Porto.

Delightfully hungry - We loved the tour. We learned so much from Miguel, our tour guide. He was very nice, had good humor, and had such a wealth of knowledge to share with us! We learned so much from him! The Douro Valley is truly such a beautiful place to visit. We also enjoyed the little picturesque town of Amarante and the two wineries that we visited. All the winery staff was very friendly. However, the lunch that we were all looking forward to in the afternoon was skimpy. I would suggest to the tour operator Living Tours that they provide us with a meal that is sufficient in protein for the cost of this tour. Our main entree included rice pilaf with little bits of duck meat and a little sausage. I felt like we were only eating a lot of starch and rice. This meal did not give us an honest sample of the local cuisine in substance. Otherwise I would have given this tour a rating of 5.
