- Leaning Tower of Pisa - A friendly, English-speaking driver-guide will pick up guests at their hotel in Florence to begin the day with a visit to PISA, a serene and charming town reminiscent of the Pisan republic’s past.
The river system in Pisa helped it avoid decline at the end of the Roman Empire. The focus will be on the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Duomo is a medieval cathedral featuring massive bronze doors, a golden ceiling, a medieval pulpit, and a stunning black and white marble interior. Nearby, the round-shaped baptistery boasts an octagonal font and a spacious round interior. The Leaning Tower, originally the cathedral’s bell tower, began leaning shortly after its completion in 1173.
- San Gimignano 1300 - After approximately a one-hour stop, the journey continues to SAN GIMIGNANO. Founded as a small village in the 3rd century BC by the Etruscans, it is renowned today for its Vernaccia wine and architecture. Often called ‘the town of towers,’ San Gimignano has preserved 14 medieval towers, creating a cinematic setting. Enjoy an informative walk with the driver through the narrow streets of this stunning medieval gem.
- Cantinetta di Monteriggioni - Montechiaro Organic Wine Experience - The next stop is SIENA, but first, a quick visit to MONTERIGGIONI, a well-known and classic walled settlement in Tuscany. Built on a hill by the Sienese between 1213 and 1219, it overlooks the ancient Roman road, the Via Cassia.
- Duomo di Siena - The historic center of Siena is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its impressive skyline is dominated by the Gothic cathedral (Duomo) and the slender Torre del Mangia, while the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo captures the most attention and fame. Featured in films, photographs, and advertising campaigns, the piazza’s bricks cover gently sloping land and have witnessed many historical events, including the intriguing “Palio” horse race. Held on July 2 and August 16, this bareback race was first recorded in 1283 and may have roots in Roman military training. The Palazzo Pubblico (city hall), a remarkable architectural work, also houses an important museum of Siena.
- Chianti Road - On the return to Florence, there is an opportunity to explore part of the enchanting CHIANTI AREA, known for its rolling hills dotted with vineyards, cypress trees, olive trees, and small towns. Visit Panzano and Greve, two of the most beautiful Chianti towns. Time permitting, a stop at a winery to taste excellent wines and extra-virgin olive oil is possible. Return to Florence in the afternoon with full bellies, happy hearts, and wonderful memories.
