Great day at the volcano! - We had a great day with our guide Carlos at the National Park, waterfall and hot springs. He was so knowledgeable about the sites, nature, environment as well as the modern day Costa Rican economy (don’t snooze on the ride to the park-lots of great info)

A very good experience!! - The experience was amazing from start to finish, and much of it is due to the fantastic team that accompanied us. Miguel, our driver, did an impeccable job: always punctual, very professional and driving safely at all times, which allowed us to relax and enjoy the tour without worries.
Boom, our guide, was simply spectacular. Super charismatic, close and with a great knowledge of the place. He explained everything in a clear, entertaining and very good mood, making the tour dynamic and fun. He was always attentive to the group and willing to answer any questions.
The combination of Miguel and Boom made the tour not only well organized, but also very enjoyable and memorable. Undoubtedly, an experience we totally recommend. Thanks for an amazing day!

Curated and managed trails/activities close to Liberia. - All activities are manicured/well maintained and prepped for high volume of people. So if you are looking for natural trails without concrete and stairs then this is not the tour. If you want prepped and safe paths, steps, and bridges then this is the tour.
BOOM was our guide and was awesome. Very informed and knowledgeable. As well as outgoing.
Hike was not easy but not hard. My athletic teens found it exhausting. Dry rainforest trail with plenty of monkeys, butterflies, birds, geysers, mud pits, and steam vents as well as a waterfall.
Waterfall hike was short but lots of stairs and two decent sized suspension bridges with max of 2 people on it at once, so may backup depending on how busy it is.
Lunch was tasty local food buffet with salad, fish, beef, soup, sweet plantains, and great mint lemonade (just bring some rum to make mojitos)
Then ended with hot springs which was 7-9 man made pools of various depths 1-3 feet and 98-113 degrees, where majority are 104 and lower which is ideal.
All in all it was fun considering it was only 30-45 mins drive from Liberia. Request Boom and remind him to bring his ukelele to play while you eat or have some hanging out times at the hot springs.

Rincon - Manicured trails and platforms so definitely not au natural! - Post Xmas weekend 2025. Prime season!
Fun tour.
If you want something rustic or all natural - this is NOT the tour.
If you want something that is manicured and is easy to get to without the fear of getting hurt, lost, or slipping easily and has amenities like bathrooms then this is the tour.
We had BOOM as our tour guide! He was tremendous from hospitality, personality, good energy, and knowledge- life experiences matter. 6 Stars!!! He has darn close instagram-worthy photography skills. He took so many on his phone, and shared them with us at the end of the tour. He spoke great English (also knows some Polish it turns out as he was helping a family with no guide on our hike) and also brought his Ukelele that he was learning to entertain us at various moments such as lunch. He also redirected me to a much closer and easier wet rainforest from Liberia area to take the family to easily see sloths (in some cases less than 5 feet away), vipers, toucan, and frogs on the next day- Bijagua! He graciously coordinated a tour guide for us so I cancelled my pre arranged tour to La Fortuna which was 2 hrs further each way with better results.
We ended up having a private tour for 4 to our surprise/joy. It was great because I ended up pulling my hamstring the day earlier somehow so I knew I was going to be super slow.
This Ricon tour is done via a hotel that essentially has manicured various activities/stops associated with Rincon volcano. Positive is that all trails and facilities are well maintained and managed but all manicured.
We left our hotel by LIR at 715a made a quick stop to get our wrist band from the area mgt, and continued to the top, where we were one of the first peeps which was great to see wildlife without all the noise from kids and people chatting - as Xmas and NY break is prime season for the area.
First stop was the hike - it was not easy but not hard as they have created large steps with 1.5-2ft drops in many cases -which sucks going down if you have a bad hamstring. Luckily you could see a small walking path on the sides of the steps has been created by people avoiding the steps, which is so much easier on the body. However if you are decently in shape then you should be good. My HS kids who are both athletes said the hike was exhausting for them though. My quad is still sore 2 days later lol. I believe with all of the stops it was 2hr hike. Use Mosquito repellent for sure. Also it’s a dry rainforest so it was sunny on parts. We saw a group of white faced monkeys, various butterflies; and heard a toucan but couldn’t find it in the trees. The geysers and mud pool vents were cool to see, and the kids appreciated the smell all that sulfur gas. BOOM had a laser pointer to point out wildlife and introduced us to the local flowers and smells of leaves that are used by the locals. I was drenched in sweat by the end.
Next stop was the waterfall - need to bring your own towel- if you want. The walk is not bad 20 mins but a dirt walkway turns into gravel walkway then a series of stairs and suspension bridges with a max of 2 peeps crossing at a time. So we had to wait 10 mins in line on the stairs to take the bridge. There is a large wood deck (20-30 people capacity) with some space to put your shoes/towels if you need to that has a metal ladder to the water. 2-3 ft deep at platform area. The water is probably in the 40s. It took my breath away when I dunked myself in the water but so refreshing after my sweaty hike. I forgot googles - would have been nice to see how deep it went. But clear water!! Darn cold but it helped numb my hamstring pain lol. Lasted maybe 10 mins in the water.
Then drive down to lunch buffet - Costa Rican food was great- had tilapia in garlic cream sauce and stewed beef (Ropa vieja) as well as sides including sweet plantains. Loved the unlimited mint lemonade aka Virgin Mojito - need to bring some rum with you! 1 hr here.
Then drove back up to the hot springs station where they provide you a towel when you checkin. Rock gravel trail with suspension bridge and stairs. The bathroom building - mid trail - has storage lockers and changing rooms and well maintained. Short walk of maybe 15 mins. Water shoes were helpful at the hot springs as there are like 9 man made pools but half are separated by a clear stream/river which you are encouraged to use to wipe off the mud. They have a mud station where an attendant provides you a bowl of mud to self apply preferably once you have relaxed in a hot spring pools for awhile. There is a full length mirror as well as showers to take it off if you don’t want to go into the river/stream. The rocks in the river are slippery but my water shoes helped. The hot water pool of 113 degrees is across the river/stream. Nice Spa time. We rushed this a little in retrospect.
Back at the hotel by 3/330p.

Boom was our tour guide.... - Boom was our tour guide. Absolutely awesome guide and really made the entire trip a blast. We booked a private tour so it was more personal but even with a group this would be fun. The hike portion it rained which actually made it more fun. We got to see some wildlife come to life with the rain. The hot springs were fun as well. Sadly the rain caused the water to be too murky for us to swim under it.

Bryce and Jenny’s Rincon De La Vieja Daytrip - Boom picked us up at our Airbnb right on time. We had a pleasant trip through the countryside past Liberia and into Rincon de la vieja national park. For the first section as we hiked through the park Boom took plenty of opportunities to point out local flauna, wildlife, and stop to take so many amazing pictures of my wife and I. He was a great guide, answered all the questions we had and made sure we were comfortable the entire time. 10/10 would recommend this to others and if you’re lucky enough to get Boom as you’re guide then even better.

Awesome experience! - The tour was amazing! Our tour guide "Boom" was extremely knowledgeable on the local wildlife and fauna. He came all the way out to Ocotal to pick us up and made the long car ride a blast. Great English and great experience all around. It ended up being just me and my girlfriend with one other couple for a small group of 4. The hike wasn't too difficult, but just enough where the waterfall experience and hot springs at the end felt amazing. The included Lunch buffet at Hacienda Guachipelin was good too. To me, it was easily a 10/10.

Great Experience! - We had Boom as a tour guide and he was absolutely fantastic. He was very knowledgeable on the rainforest plants - he studied rainforest ecology. He pointed out what plants were edible, which ones were dangerous, and interesting facts etc. We got to hike (saw some monkeys), swim in a waterfall, have a mud spa experience, and swim in some hot springs. We really enjoyed our time. The whole experience was very organized, professional and on time. The company is great at communicating and accommodating as well. Would highly recommend!

Beautiful hike and waterfall - Scenic hike (though a bit slow for us given that we had 20 in the group). Guide, "Boom," had a great sense of humor and played the ukelele when we were transiting in the van. A few of the details of the trip seemed a little scattered, though to be fair, part of this was due to it being New Year's Eve (day) and things were shutting down early.

They canceled last minute - Title says it all. They canceled on us less then 24 hours before the tour. They had confirmed it when we booked but canceled last minute on us leaving us scrambling to find a different tour.
