Next, drive approximately 32 minutes to your following destination:
- Assenova Krepost (Asen’s Fortress) - Continue your Bulgarian road trip into the stunning Rhodope Mountains, following the winding road to the Fortress of Asen, perched on a rocky ridge.
The fortress was constructed in the 6th century during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian the Great and played a significant strategic role during the Middle Ages. Although it was ruined after the Ottoman conquest in the 14th century, the original church remains, offering a spectacular panoramic view from the top.

- Bachkovo Monastery - Arrive at Bachkovo Monastery at 3:15 PM.
Following lunch, enjoy a 15-minute walk to visit Bachkovo Monastery. Nestled beautifully in the Rhodope Mountains, it is located to the right of the Chepelarska River Valley and is one of the most significant monasteries of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. This National Monument, like Nesebar, is also a UNESCO heritage site. It preserves a vast collection of invaluable paintings from the 11th to 14th centuries.
You will depart around 4:45 PM and arrive in Sofia by 7:00 PM.
