Flight to Jomsom (20 min) and Trek to Kagbeni
Jomsom - An early morning flight to Jomsom, known for its apples, strong winds, and stunning landscape, is scheduled. The trek begins on an open trail alongside a picturesque valley, passing through Eaklibatti village before reaching Jomsom, situated at the confluence of two rivers. The village is charming with flat-roofed houses and remnants of an ancient fortress.
Kagbeni to Chele
Kagbeni - After permit checks, the trek continues along the Kali Gandaki River. The path involves walking on sand amidst strong winds before climbing a hill. Upon reaching Tangbe Village, travelers can admire its narrow alleyways, white-washed houses, barley and buckwheat fields, and apple orchards. The journey continues through another village and across a river, followed by a walk on a ridge leading to Chele Village.
Chele to Syangboche
Mustang Region - Today’s trek is more challenging, involving the crossing of two passes, Taklam La Pass (3,624m) and Dajori La Pass (3,735m). Along the way, there are stunning views of Tilicho, Yakawa Kang, and Damodar Danda, and a visit to Ramchung Cave. The descent leads to Samar Village, followed by a trail above the village to a ridge, then a steep descent to a stream, and onward to Syangboche.
Syangboche to Ghami
Ghami - The trek ascends to the Yamada La pass at 3,850m, passing a few teahouses, chhortens, and picturesque villages. The route continues through polar forests and barley fields to Nyi La Pass at 3,950 m. From there, the descent leads to Ghami, one of the largest villages in the Lo region, surrounded by fields.
Ghami to Tsarang
Lo Manthang - The trek begins with a descent on a rough and often slippery trail, crossing a suspension bridge over the GhamiKhola, followed by an ascent. The path is adorned with Mani walls. After crossing the Tsarang La Pass at 3,870 m, the journey reaches Tsarang village, situated atop the Charang Chu canyon, featuring a large fortress and a red gompa to the east.
Tsarang to Lo-Manthang
Lo Manthang - The return journey from Lo-Manthang to modern civilization begins today. The route offers many natural scenes that enhance the travel experience. The journey then returns to Ghami.
Explore Lo Manthang (rest day)
Lo Manthang - Lo Manthang is a walled town in the remote Upper Mustang region of Nepal. The day is spent visiting three major gompas: Jhampa, Thubchen, and Chhode, all expertly restored over the past two decades. A trek to Tingkhar, a beautiful village northwest of Lo-Mangthang, is also possible.
Lo Mantang to Drakmar
Lo Manthang - The return trek from Lo-Manthang follows a different route, passing through Gyakar village, home to the century-old Ghar Gompa with exquisite rock paintings. According to local legend, wishes made at the Gompa are fulfilled. After exploring the Gompa, the trek continues to Drakmar for an overnight stay.
Drakmar to Ghiling
Ghiling - The trek begins early to avoid strong winds, mostly descending through a dry plateau and fields to reach Ghiling. The walk can be challenging due to strong winds, but offers excellent views of the Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri mountains. An evening tour of the village is possible.
Ghiling to Chhuksang
Chhusang - After breakfast, the trek resumes on the same trail used to ascend to Lo Manthang. The journey to Chhusang offers spectacular views of the Himalayas and the small villages along the way.
Chhuksang to Jomsom
Jomsom - The final day of the trek is a long one. After some trekking, the Mustang trails end, joining the Annapurna circuit trails. Lunch is at Kagbeni, followed by a continuation to Jomsom for an overnight stay.

The Upper Mustang Trek is a mesmerising journey through the hidden Buddhist realms of Mustang. Known as an ancient forbidden kingdom that neighbours the Tibetan Plateau, Mustang is nested among several of the highest peaks on Earth, including the towering Annapurna(8,901 m/ 26,545 ft) and Dhaulagiri(8,167 m/26,795 ft). Stricter tourism policies have helped preserve elderly traditions here. Until 1992, the Upper Mustang Trek was a restricted, demilitarized area. This has led to its status as one of the best-preserved areas worldwide, given its relative isolation of the outside world. A majority of its inhabitants continue to communicate in native Tibetan dialects. Mustang, translated from Tibetan, refers to the ‘Plain of Aspiration’. It was only in 1992 that the Upper Mustang trek was opened up for outsiders. Regardless of seasons, this region enjoys popularity throughout the year for trekking and exploration.
