• Abbazia di San Vito - The quaint port of San Vito serves as a docking area for local fishermen’s boats. From the sea, the Abbey of the same name, dating back to the eighteenth century and now a private residence, can be seen overlooking the marina. To the left, the control tower and fishponds, used for storing live fish during the winter, are visible.

• Cala Paura -

The first indentation along the coast is a cove, not a cave: Cala Paura. Originally named Cala Paguro, it is believed that the dialect term “Pagour” (hermit crab) led to its current name due to phonetic similarity. In this cove, the famous “Torno Subito” inscription, crafted in wrought iron and set into the rock, can be found. It is said to be the work of an Iranian sculptor visiting Polignano, though the intended recipient of the message remains unknown. Perhaps it was meant for someone in the local area.

• Grottone - Just after Cala Paura lies Grottone. Remarkably, in the early 1900s, this cave housed a cinema, accessible through a small sea-facing door.

• Grotta Azzurra - The Blue Cave is situated beneath the Santo Stefano Bastion. It is named for the stunning light effects created by the interplay of sea water, sunlight, and rocks, which give the cave its blue hue.

• Lama Monachile - Lama Monachile is the iconic image of Polignano. It is the most photographed beach and the first destination for visitors upon arriving in town. In the 15th century, it served as Polignano’s commercial port. Viewing Lama Monachile from the sea, the cliff of the Bastione di Santo Stefano is visible on the left. On the right, the rocks feature large steps leading to a bronze statue dedicated to Domenico Modugno. A small cave, La Grotta della Piana, is accessible from the blade, with its exit visible from the sea, resembling a rock tunnel.

• Statua di Domenico Modugno - To the right, atop the stairs on the rocks, stands the bronze statue dedicated to the singer Domenico Modugno, a native of Polignano a Mare, renowned for the song “Volare - Nel blu dipinto di Blu.”

• Grotta Palazzese - The Palazzese Cave is the most famous, partly due to the restaurant of the same name. In the 1920s, this cave was home to a splendid bathing establishment, one of Italy’s first. Inside the cave are two caverns, a smaller one and a larger one, with the smaller cavern also featuring a small pebble beach.

• Scoglio dell’Eremita - Numerous legends surround this islet: it is said that a pilgrim returning from the Holy Land chose to reside on the Rock. It is known that in 1612, fishermen built a chapel dedicated to St. Antonio Abate there. In 1837, during a cholera epidemic, the church became a lazaret and was later destroyed. In 1901, a group of missionaries affixed an iron cross to the rock, which remains visible today.
