About the Park:
Wasgamuwa National Park receives between 1650 and 2100 millimeters of rainfall and maintains an average annual temperature of 28°C. Historically, Wasgamuwa was a primary habitat for the Sri Lankan Sloth Bear, with its name originating from the Sinhala term for ‘Sloth Bear Woods’. The park is home to over 150 species of flowers found in its forests, grasslands, and reservoirs. In terms of wildlife, there are 23 species of mammals, 143 species of birds (including 8 endemic species), over 50 species of butterflies, 17 species of reptiles, and 8 species of amphibians.
