Explore the ruins of Pompeii for two hours with a guide. Pompeii was devastated and completely buried during a catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius that lasted two days in 79 AD. The eruption caused the tallest roof tiles to collapse and buried Pompeii under 25 feet of ash and pumice. It remained lost for nearly 1,700 years until its accidental rediscovery in 1748. Since then, excavations have offered incredibly detailed insights into the life of a city at the peak of the Roman Empire.

Next, spend two hours touring the ruins of Herculaneum with a guide. Herculaneum was established by the Oschi, an Italic tribe from the eighth century BC, and later became part of the Etruscan and Samnite territories. Under Roman rule, the city became a famous seaside resort where some of the wealthiest Roman citizens enjoyed their summer vacations.

Finally, visit the Cantina del Vesuvio on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius to savor the food and wine specialties of the Campania region.
