Full day exploration - We booked 2 tours with this company, and were lucky enough to have Filipe as our guide for both. So many highlights: the wonderful views, the food, the steaming fumaroles, and the beautiful Terra Nostra Garden to name a few.
(There are only 4 changing rooms at the Garden, and the line can be quite long. Be sure to wear a dark bathing suit as the minerals in the pool can stain. Also leave time to stroll thru the beautiful garden!)
Filipe made this tour memorable with his humor, knowledge and friendliness. Highly recommend!

Great tour - This was such a great tour. It was the off season in January so it was just the two of us. Our tour guide was super knowledgeable and fun, easy to get a long with. He took a picture of us jumping in mid air at a high point on a hill and overlooking a waterfall and it was such a great picture. The gardens and thermal pool is nice too and the lunch was so good. I wish we got to walk around the lake there a bit. It was a really great day though and we had a lot of fun and also enjoyed the tea plantation. I recommend this tour company!

Just do it.... - This was one of two tours we did with this company. You get to see and experience some amazing things, great views, impressive lakes, dips in thermal pools really good food. What really takes the tour into the brilliant category is the Guide. Knowledgeable, interested, interesting, and helpful are only a few of the superlatives that we would use to describe Rui! We would highly recommend this tour

Great days out. - We did two trips with this company one half day tour with Filipe and a full day with Joao, both booked at short notice due to whale watching trips being cancelled.
It was not a problem to accommodate us at short notice and we had a lovely time. Both Filipe and Joao were friendly and well informed.
Their passion for this lovely island was obvious.
I would strongly recommend booking with this company.

Sao Miguel Day Tours - Fantastic experience. So good we booked a second day. Canceled my car rental . Joao R. was excellent. Continually adding extra stops and surprises. He was a wealth of local information. Bring the family here in the future and will definitely request him.

Vehicles can be very uncomfortable - Firstly, the tour itself and the tour guide were very, very good. Would certainly recommend those aspects.
Whilst we knew it was a 4x4 tour, the vehicle used was an early 90s (a rough guess at the age) Land Rover Defender 110. Certainly pre 2000 puma version.
These vehicles feature fold-down sideways bench seating in the rear cargo compartment. So on a tour with six people + driver, two are in the rear of these seats.
For someone who is 192cm tall, this is not a realistic space.
So I was extremely grateful when another guest, a lovely lady from Italy, offered to swap seats with me so I could sit in the front. And then at least see out of the window.
Upshot is, if you're picked up last (and you have no control over this) and your end up in the back - It will be an uncomfortable journey. If you're over 170cm, you can't see out. Kids would probably be fine and think its fun for the first 20 mins.
Ultimately, you don't even need a 4x4 for the Furnas tour. So I'd recommend you book a mini-van tour instead.
