Not all about dead white guys - Dugan was not only knowledgeable, but was educated about lesser known historical facts, including the marginalized and oppressed people who shaped Portland. .

Engaging American history walking tour with knowledgeable, passionate guide - My group and I went on the Portland Black History Tour from Portland by the Foot, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Dugan is knowledgeable, passionate, joyful, and funny. He shares a wealth of well-researched information about Portland’s Black history through the centuries and highlights multiple figures, including both famous names and those otherwise unknown but important to American history. I appreciated that there was time to ask questions throughout. I recommend this tour and look forward to joining another in the future.

Insightful and Education Tour - Such a wonderful tour with an amazing tour guide! I was able to go with my company for work and I was delightful surprised by all that Dugan was able to show us. Dugan was quick, insightful and adaptable to our questions and interests. Sharing his insights and more into the history of marginalized voices. History, people, impacts, and sites that may get buried without events such as this. Sharing knowledge and lifting voices of Portland's Black history/current was so fabulous! I am so pleased with every aspect! Left with a few great book recommendations as well!

What an amazing experience! - This tour was one of the coolest things that I've done in Portland and in my whole trip for New England I must say. You can tell that he is really passionate about the history and that he put a lot of effort to collect the info!

Worthwhile, well researched, artfully presented: Black History comes alive in Portland! - What an interesting, informative, well paced , memorable and FUN tour this is! Dugan is chock full of historical information, invites questions ( AND goes on to answer them with ease). Thoughtfully curated stops, very walkable with spots to sit and rest, as needed. There are moments on the tour where Dugan ( carrying his curated historically prominent portraits of people, maps, places) even produced his own version of 'back in time, you are there' as we stood on what once was one of the most bustling wharfs for big ships downtown ( now a paved sidestreet) and we could get the feel of how it looked over 150 years ago. We even got to hear a song ( which he played on his phone for us) of what the dockhands were known to have sung as they offloaded ships. Dugan knows how to make history come alive. ...and a part of history so often unknown to so many, for so long. Well worth the two hours. You will NOT be disappointed with the BLACK HISTORY GUIDED WALKING TOUR with Dugan at Portland by the Foot
