It is the most frequently climbed stratovolcano in the Cascades, with easy access from Timberline Lodge, the only ski resort in the US open year-round.
- Timberline Lodge - This Works Progress Administration project was inaugurated by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1937. It is one of Oregon’s most distinctive and expansive buildings, located on Mt. Hood above the timberline, offering breathtaking views. Visitors can enjoy interpretive displays, dining options, summer hiking, and winter snow activities. The lodge is a National Historic Landmark and the only ski resort in the US open every month of the year.
- Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area - Spanning 85 miles (137 km), the Columbia Gorge NSA boasts waterfalls, mountains, monoliths, terraces, resort towns, vineyards, orchards, the Columbia River, and a diverse bird and plant community that varies significantly from west to east.
- Bridge of the Gods - This Columbia River crossing is part of the Pacific Crest Trail and marks the trail’s lowest point. It is named after a Native American legend that explains the local geology.

- Sandy River - We’ll cross the Sandy River between the Columbia Gorge and Willamette Valley. Originating from a glacier on Mt. Hood, the river is famous for its Steelhead and Chinook runs. Consequently, the Sandy is one of three Columbia tributaries whose dams have been removed since 2007.
