With over 1,000 food carts scattered throughout the city, join us as we explore some of the best and savor the delicious foods that make Portland a true haven for food lovers. On this walking tour, you’ll experience global cuisines, enjoy refreshing drinks, and learn fascinating history in this vibrant neighborhood. We believe this is the ideal way to uncover quirky Portland, dine like a local, and have a great time!
Tour highlights:
- Enjoy generous portions of food and drinks from 5-7 different food carts, including a stop at a food hall and a final visit to a local brewery. You’ll get more than a full meal!
- Discover the unique culture of Portland’s food carts. (We don’t call them trucks for a reason.)
- Sample a variety of international dishes such as Slavic, Mexican, Bavarian, and Burmese treats.
- Explore Portland’s historic, off-the-beaten-path Eastside neighborhood and admire the local street art.
- All special dietary requirements must be communicated at time of booking. We are happy to welcome vegetarians and pescatarians, but due to the diverse nature of food carts visited, please note not all stops can be made gluten-free, dairy-free, or vegan.
- This is a walking tour, total walking distance will be approximately 1 miles. Please be prepared to walk in any type of weather. Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately including footwear and umbrella/rain gear.
- This is a smoke-free tour.
- This experience requires a minimum number of travelers. If it’s canceled because the minimum isn’t met, you’ll be offered a different date/experience or a full refund.
- Everyone in your party must book a spot, including children of all ages.

Cartopia Food Carts: 1207 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland OR, 97214. There are two entrances, please use entrance on 12th St near the white bike racks. Your guide will be at a table there, or if wet/rainy will be under covered area, and will have a yellow sign and yellow bag on table.

Just do it…. - Great food… historical information about Portland…. Good amount of food … portions… fist I was alone second time I brought my family from all over the US… Herb will take good care of you awesome experience.

What an unexpected exploration of Portland food! - Herb made us count. This was my 8th food tour. This one stands out for a couple of reasons. Michelle, the owner of the company, worked individually with me to make the tour work for me. Herb took us to multiple places. The food he presented was varied, unexpected and always tasty. We had about 10 things to eat/drink. I had had three of them previously. Herb was also full of bits of information that ranged from the people cooking our food to the streets we were walking down. I left with a lot of knowledge and a very full stomach.

Herb made this food tour outstanding - Herb was one of the most knowledgeable food tour guides we’ve ever had, and we’ve taken quite a few food tours around the world, the food pods that we stopped at and had samples of their food were just excellent , Herb even showed us how to get back to our hotel on the other side of the river, great guide!!!!

Write your book Herb - We had so much fun with Herb. Should everyone have a guide that is not only in love with the city that he lives in, but his passion about the farmers, and the chefs that produced the food on this tour. You can see the enjoyment he gets with educating others

Food Cart Scene - This was the best food walking tour I have ever been on. Herb, our guide, was exceptional. His knowledge of Portland and of its food cart/pod scene was above and beyond other guides. He made this a great experience for our group. The food was amazing, the stops were fabulous and the discussions were very robust. Come hungry!

#1 Food Tour and Guide! - Our Portland Food Carts, Pods and Patios Tour, led by our guide Herb, was FABULOUS. Herb (Portland) is the best food tour guide we have had in all the cities we have visited across the US. He we knowledgeable and his positive relationships with the food cart owners only enhanced our experience. We had great food and great conversation in a small group atmosphere!

A delicious introduction to Portland’s food cart/pod scene! - My husband and I had a fantastic time on the food cart tour! Our host, Herb, was knowledgeable about both the food and local Portland culture. Plus, there were zero issues accommodating our vegetarian diet, and the portions were perfect! We highly recommend the tour for those interested in sampling a range of delicious food cart cuisine.

Good tour but frequent food mix-ups - While I personally had a good time, and there was plenty of food, there was also a LOT of trouble matching the dietary needs of the rest of the group, and I'd like to acknowledge that. A vegetarian wound up being fed some meat before they realized, and another person had to frequently exchange some food or hand it off to someone else because of toppings. Thankfully for most of us it wasn't anything so critical as allergies, but if it had been, we'd have been in deep trouble.
It was a 90-degree day so maybe we can chalk it up to that, but a lot more attention needs to be paid to who needs what! A second trip to the cart to make sure any altered food is correct would be a lot better than bringing everything at once and getting confused over who needs what or if something was made correctly.
