Into the Depths: The Journey Begins

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as my group of thrill-seekers and I arrived at the dive shop in Porto Cristo. The anticipation was palpable, and the air was filled with the salty tang of the sea. We were about to embark on an adventure that promised to be unlike anything we had ever experienced before: exploring the Cova des Coloms, one of Mallorca’s most stunning marine caves.

After being fitted with our wetsuits, we boarded a speedboat that would take us along the east coast to our destination. The ride was exhilarating, the wind whipping through our hair as the boat cut through the waves. As we approached the cave, the excitement in the group was electric. We jumped into the water and swam towards the entrance, guided by the experienced and friendly team. The entrance required a brief underwater passage, but with the help of our guide, Dolores, we navigated it with ease.

A World Beneath the Surface

Once inside, the cave opened up into a breathtaking underground world. The light from our flashlights danced off the stalactites and stalagmites, creating a surreal landscape that seemed to belong to another planet. The air was cool and filled with the sound of dripping water, echoing off the walls.

The highlight of the exploration was swimming through the crystal-clear lake inside the cave. The water was brackish and cool, a refreshing contrast to the warm air outside. As we swam, the reflections of the stalactites above created an otherworldly scene, one that will be etched in my memory forever.

The Return to Reality

After completing the circuit inside the cave, we retraced our steps back to the entrance. The swim back to the boat was invigorating, and the ride back to the dive shop was filled with laughter and shared stories of the adventure we had just experienced.

Back at the dive shop, we had the opportunity to purchase photos taken by the guides during our excursion. They captured the essence of our adventure perfectly, and I couldn’t resist buying a few to remember the day. A quick shower to wash off the saltwater, and we were ready to explore the charming town of Porto Cristo.
