• Ponte do Freixo - A long road bridge from the 1990s that connects Vila Nova de Gaia with the heart of Porto, offering scenic views of the Douro River. Among the bridges linking Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia, Ponte do Freixo is the furthest upstream on the Douro River. It consists of two bridges built side by side, separated by just 10 cm.
• Ponte de São João - This railway bridge carries the Northern Line over the Douro River near Porto, Portugal. It was constructed to replace the century-old Ponte D. Maria Pia and began operation on June 24, 1991.
• Ponte D. Maria Pia - A grand arched railway bridge completed in 1877, designed by the renowned architect Gustave Eiffel. Alongside the Viaduct of Garabit, it is considered one of Eiffel’s greatest masterpieces. At its inauguration, it boasted the longest iron arch in the world.
• Ponte Infante Dom Henrique - Also known as Ponte do Infante, this road bridge connects Vila Nova de Gaia to Porto over the Douro River. Named after Infante D. Henrique, who was born in Porto, it is the newest and, according to many, the most elegant bridge linking Porto and Gaia. It was built to replace the upper deck of the Luís I Bridge.
• Ponte de Dom Luís I - The most iconic bridge in Greater Porto, featuring an arched design with a road on the lower level and a metro line on the upper level between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. This bridge replaced an old suspension bridge at the same location and was designed by Belgian engineer Théophile Seyrig, who had previously worked with Gustave Eiffel on the D. Maria Pia railway bridge.
• Ponte da Arrábida - An arched bridge over the Douro River. Since the 1930s, there was a need for alternative connections to the older bridges (D. Maria Pia and D. Luís bridges) to accommodate increasing road traffic. At its completion in 1963, it featured the largest reinforced concrete arch of any bridge worldwide.
• Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar - A historic monastery from the 16th century, perched atop a hill and renowned for its cloister and round church. The monastery is considered one of the most remarkable examples of classical European architecture due to its exceptional design and the unique circular form of both its church and cloister. The church was declared a National Monument in 1910 and, along with the Historic Center of Porto and the Luís I Bridge, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
• Jardim do Morro - A garden offering stunning views of the river and the city of Porto, a beloved spot in the city.
• Cais de Gaia - A tourist area featuring terraces, restaurants, and bars, located on the left bank of the Douro River in Vila Nova de Gaia, opposite Porto’s historic district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For centuries, this area served as a river port for exporting various goods, especially Port wine.
