Amazing Tour with the best guide - My husband planned a full day for my son and I on Crete in March. We had the coolest driver/tour guide Leonidas. First he showed is a city that had been underwater in the reservoir, and because of the three year drought, was now mostly exposed. Then we went to an olive oil pressing facility. It wasn’t in use at the time because it isn’t harvesting season. But we got a really neat tour and we then got to try the olive oil in little shot glasses. We tried plain olive oil and then infusions with basil or garlic or chili or lemon. On our way to visit the Holy Monastery of Vidiani, we saw some really neat old windmills. They also have newer turbine windmills on the island. The Monastery was beautiful and the views spectacular. Bees made their hives in the actual walls years ago and now the monks harvest the honey in boxed hives. They also raise their own chickens and goats. Inside the church, under the carpet, was a door leading underground where the monks taught the local children about orthodoxy during the Turkish occupation. The monks also had their own small church in the back where they prayed themselves. We visited Mount Psiloritis, "Zeus mountain." It’s the island's highest peak. The cave has been under renovation for the past 2 years so we weren’t able to go up and inside it. But the views were breathtaking. We passed, “Niki’s Cafe” and some amazing views of the island and the sea on our way to lunch. We got amazing pics at both. He stopped just so I could get a pic since my name is Niki. We also passed by a 2,400 year old tree called the Krasi Plane Tree. Last year it was stuck by lightening and half of it split off. But it is still alive. It is across from two stone arched fountains, which flow year-round. Drinking water comes from one side and stone basins are on the other side where women did laundry with the overflow water. We ate at the Kalamaki Meat Bar. It’s kind of like a Greek Chipotle except with table service if you want it. It was phenomenal, even the salad was great despite it being a “meat bar.” The second half of the afternoon We explored the Palace of Knossos and then Leonidas suggested we visit the Heraklion Archeological Museum in the center of town where they have all the items they excavated from the Palace. It was on the way back to our hotel so we asked if he could just drop us off there so he did. I am Greek and I learned so much that I didn’t know on the tour. Leonidas was very knowledgeable. He and my son bonded over their love of video games. He is just a good guy. I totally recommend him and his company. It was a wonderful day. Oh and he gave us a dinner suggestion that probably was the best meal we had while we were in Greece, while also being surprisingly one of the most inexpensive. A++++++++++

Perfect private experience! - Highly recommend Crete Wanderer! Our guide was excellent and the van was spotless and very comfortable. It was so much better than a crowded tour bus. We saw so much in one day and never felt rushed. A must-do if you are in Crete!

Great tour - We had a great time and really appreciate Lionides showing us around and answering our questions and being so accommodating to our schedules and needs. Loved meeting locals in areas we might not have thought to check out on our own. Truly a great way to get a little idea about Crete.
