- Royal Palace - The Royal Palace is one of Phnom Penh’s most iconic landmarks. Construction began in 1886 after King Norodom moved the royal capital to Phnom Penh and was completed before World War I. Today, the palace remains the primary residence of the King of Cambodia.
- Silver Pagoda - Located next to the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, the beautiful Silver Pagoda offers a serene escape from the bustling streets of Cambodia’s capital. The interior is equally stunning, with countless handcrafted silver tiles covering the floor. Also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the pagoda’s main Buddha statue is made of emerald or baccarat crystal.
- Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum - The Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh chronicles the Cambodian genocide. Originally a secondary school, it was used as Security Prison 21 (S-21) by the Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1979. An estimated 20,000 people were imprisoned here during that time. Tuol Sleng means “Hill of the Poisonous Trees” or “Strychnine Hill.” It was one of at least 150 torture and execution centers established by the Khmer Rouge. On July 26, 2010, the chief of Tuol Sleng Prison, Kang Kek Iew (alias Duch), was convicted of crimes against humanity and grave breaches of the 1949 Geneva Conventions and sentenced to life imprisonment.
- Wat Phnom - Wat Phnom, set atop a 27-meter-high tree-covered knoll, is the only hill in town. According to legend, the first pagoda on this site was built in 1373 to house four Buddha statues deposited by the Mekong River and discovered by a woman named Penh. The main entrance is via a grand eastern staircase, guarded by lions and naga (snake) balustrades.
- Independence Monument - Built in 1958 to commemorate Cambodia’s independence from France in 1953, the Independence Monument stands at the intersection of Norodom Boulevard and Sihanouk Boulevard in Phnom Penh. Designed by Cambodian architect Vann Molyvann, the lotus-shaped stupa stands 37 meters tall. During national celebrations, the monument becomes the center of activity, with a ceremonial flame often lit by a royal or high official and floral tributes lining the stairs. It is a popular site for both tourists and locals.
- Statue of King Father Norodom Sihanouk - This large bronze memorial statue is located in Independent Square in the center of Phnom Penh.
- Wat Ounalom - One of Phnom Penh’s five original monasteries, Wat Ounalom was established in 1422 and housed the Institute Bouddhique and library. Located about 250 meters north of the Royal Palace, facing the Tonle Sap River, this pagoda serves as the headquarters for one of Cambodia’s most revered Buddhist patriarchs. It is a major tourist attraction in Phnom Penh, offering a pleasurable experience for visitors.

Phnom Pehn from the cruise ship. - We had great day excursion from our docked Viking ship into Phnom Penh. Our driver,Hong, was excellent on the long trip into the city and then negotiating city traffic for us. We always felt safe. Our guide, Lesong, gave us a fabulous history of Cambodia, helping us understand and appreciate the culture and the people of Cambodia with his personal insights as we visited some key sites. The whole day was personalized for us and we really enjoyed it!

Great day trip tour of Phnom Penh! - The driver and the guide were both flexible with our ship’s late arrival and accommodated us beautifully so we got to see and experience Phnom Penh. Our guide was super knowledgeable about the history and culture of his lovely country, allowing us to get his local insight on some of the key sites in Phnom Penh. We really enjoyed the tour!

Great experience! - The entire experience was fantastic! We came on a Viking cruise to Sihanoukville, Cambodia. The cruise line only offered an overnight trip to Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia. A driver picked us from the gate, guide met us in Phnom Peng. Eak, the guide, was very knowledgeable in telling us about the city, culture, religion and anything else we asked him. One of the temples we were planning to visit was closed, so he quickly had an amazing alternative. From each event, the driver was ready with an air conditioned car and water to take us to the next destination. This was a great break since it was 96 degrees at the time. Overall this was a very good experience.

See Phnom Penn highlights - Mr Sam is knowledgeable. Highly recommend. Went to Royal Palace, genocide museum , monk residence and independence statue. Nice lunch in local restaurant. Gained a deeper understanding of Cambodia.

Phnom Peng in 1 Day! Fun! - The entire experience was fantastic! My mom and I came on a Viking cruise to Sihanoukville, Cambodia. The cruise line only offered an overnight trip to Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia. A driver picked us from the gate, guide met us in Phnom Peng. Eak, the guide, was very knowledgeable in telling us about the city, culture, religion and anything else we asked him. One of the temples we were planning to visit was closed, so he quickly had an amazing alternative. From each event, the driver was ready with an air conditioned car and water to take us to the next destination. This was a great break since it was 96 degrees at the time. Overall this was a very good experience.

Great Tour! - The tour was fabulous. Very informative and funny. We had Eak as a guide and he told us everything about the city with history and humor. The drive from the port was great. Nice Lexus SUV. All in all worth every penny!!

Enjoyed the day, mostly - Confusion at the port - cruise passengers were not allowed to walk from the ship to the gate, and the shuttle buses did not stop at the tour pickup point Gate 1. Instead we were dropped at Independence Park and we had to call the tour company to pick us up. The driver did not use Whatsapp.
So we lost an hour in the above confusion.
Rest of the trip was great. Very comfortable car and driver. Guide was Markara and he was also excellent.
There is no scheduled stop for lunch - we took snacks from the ship which helped us save time.
The highway takes about 2 hours, and then you spend another hour within the city to get to the sightseeing areas.
Local people are very polite and kind. Cover your knees and shoulders if you want to enter the temples. It gets pretty hot so a hat and portable fan are essential.

Amazing Trip From Cruise Port - EXCELLENT day trip to Phnom Penh with Mr Sokheang (driver) and Mr. Silong (guide)! Snafu between port authority and cruise ship delayed our departure and therefore tour time but our guys compensated well and we still got to visit the key sites (with the exception of one Wat). The van seemed new with good air conditioning and good legroom (one member is 6'8" tall) and well stocked with cold water. (Cold, fresh bottles after each stop).
Both driver and guide had very good English which made communication easy. Ample toilet breaks both while in the car or walking. Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable and easy to understand. We also did a quick stop for takeout snacks and a brief stop at the confluence of the 4 rivers. The four of us travelers are VERY happy with this tour and ESPECIALLY for Driver Mr. Sokheang and Guide Mr. Silong!!
