BOOK THIS ONE! - We had the BEST experience! Our guide was an archeologist named Adam, and our driver was a very nice young man named Jose. They were fabulous! I can’t say enough about Adam and how funny and informative he was. We felt safe and cared for the entire time we were off this ship. We booked this excursion through Carnival. Our tickets were waiting for us at our cabin door. We got off the ship and wet to the assigned number on the pier. We had to wait a short amount of time for the rest of the people who booked to arrive, then we got on an air conditioned bus and had about an hours drive to the ruins. Adam told, and showed us several interesting facts and landmarks, answered everyone’s questions, no matter how silly, with confidence, humor, and interest. We spent about an hour at the ruins and were free to explore, and bother Adam with our questions. After the ruins we went to a restaurant and had lunch (food not included, but it cost us $12 (American) for lunch for two, and drinks were included). We walked the beach after lunch, and walked through progreso, we had a fantastic time! Bring sunblock and bug spray! Highly recommend!

Mayan ruin - Close to Progresso. Small site close to the sea. You can climb pyramid and accompanying buildings. Didn't have map of the layout. No explanations available. But unlimited access to the grounds. Price increased in last couple years to $210 pesos. Need an hour to visit.

Xcambo tour and corona beach - If you are looking for some ruins to climb this is the one. We book this excursions through Carnival cruise and was not disappointed. Our tour guides Jose, Adam and Arturo were amazing. Jose was the driver and ensured we made it to our destinations safely and on time. Adam and Antonio were very informative about the history of the Xcambo history and funny which made the 45 min drive to and from the port to the ruins tolerable. From the meeting spot to dropping us back off at the port everything was flawless. Heres the rundown: 45 mins air conditioned bus ride to the ruins, we spent about an hour at the ruins and trust me that was enough time to climb take pics and ask questions… etc. After that we took a 30 mins ride to Corona Beach where you can see the ship adding more reassurance. We spent about 2 hours at the beach, enjoyed the free alcoholic beverages and the amazing chips and salsa. Adam and Antonio provided recommendations on food and how to respectfully decline the many side hustles from the locals. Overall our experience was great and would highly recommend. It was very humid so be mindful of that. Kid friendly but not wheelchair accessible, definitely not suitable for anyone with limited mobility.

Excellent tour guides and experience - Hubby and I took this excursion from the Margaritaville Islander cruise ship. Our tour guides, Adam and Rayna, were fabulous! He has a degree in archeology and her degree is in biology. Their commentary on the very comfortable bus, as well as at the site, was informative and helpful. On the way to Xcambo from the ship (about 45 minutes), we passed flamingos and salt fields. Our group of 47 had the ruins to ourselves for a while, which was great. The beach break portion was at a very nice beach-front restaurant. After enjoying fabulous $12 chicken enchiladas (enough for 2 people for lunch and recommended by Adam) we did a little shopping in town. The trip was just the right amount of time, especially considering that it got very hot very quickly.

Private tour and amazing customer service - Fantastic adventure with our tour guide Tony (Antonio). He was very knowledgeable of all the attractions he took us to. There was a bit of a language barrier but it helped that spoke some Spanish and understood everything he said. He did try to help my husband who only speaks English but I told him it's okay and that I could translate. We had a great time and he kindly waited for us while we explored and took pictures. He took us on a private tour in a car with air conditioning and took us directly to a wild life conservation area where we saw wild flamingos and other birds and fish and crabs. We asked questions, took some pictures and went on to the next site. Pink salt lakes. He went to the men working and asked for a piece of the salt to give us. That was special and souvenirs we'll hold on to forever. We then went to Xcambo mayan ruins. Tony showed us the whole site and walked around with us and answered all of questions. He then let us explore to climb the ruins and take pictures. My husband really loved the church. After that he took us back to the city to a beach club where we had a lovely lunch and a pretty view of the beach. He left us for about an hour and a half and then came back to pick us up and take us back to our bus to ride back to the port and make it to our cruise ship on time. Highly recommend using Criss and Sands excursion services. They kept in contact with me in making sure we made it to our meeting points on time. Very helpful, friendly, professional and courteous. They made our anniversary unforgettable. Thank you so much Tony. You are amazing. Mucha Gracias.

Progreso a nice calmer port - Nice staff members and safe driving van. Sadly could not pick us up at cruise ship, due to port construction. Decent to see the pyramids, bit of a drive which caused our beach time very short. Nice that Progreso was not crowded and had nice shops.

Enjoyed the Mayan ruins after a confusing start - Our tour guide Antonio was very friendly and knowledgeable about the Mayan ruins and the salt flats. The only drawback was we requested an English speaking tour guide and he spoke very little English, but luckily my wife speaks Spanish so she was able to translate for me. We also saw many pink flamingoes and stopped to take pictures. We didn’t really spend time at the beach since we were hungry after the tour but it looked nice. The vendors were everywhere and Antonio picked us up after our meal and took us back to the pickup spot.
Also, pickup at the ship port is an additional charge which I didn't know about until after I had booked. We declined that and made our way to the meetup point but no one was there and the door was locked. Luckily the vendor across from the meetup point saw that we were lost and told us he contacted Jose who met us there shortly afterwards. It was a little cumbersome getting started with no real way to contact the staff except through the Viator app.

Good but not great - Tour guide was great, but widh we had more information at the ruins. Really disappointed with the beach break. Website said there were inflatable water toys to use and there was not.

Was very mediocre - The ruins were awesome to look at and we saw lots of flamingos! Was a little disappointed that we had to pay $8 a person after paying $85 per person just to go on the excursion. The included beach resort wasn’t that great, the buffet food was mediocre and the drinks were pretty bad. As far as the tour guide goes he was good, wish he spoke more English so we could’ve understood more of what he was saying cause we know very little Spanish.

Never again - Do yourself a favor and avoid this company. They won't pick you up at the cruise terminal. You get lost at town trying to find them. Plus their transportation is ugly and tour guides poorly prepared. They promote their excursions on shore excursions.com as well so shame on the company and shame on this local company. I would've love to leave a good review but not the case.
