Unforgettable Family Adventures in Progreso: Discovering Yucatán’s Hidden Gems
When I heard about Sergio’s 5 in 1 Tour, I knew it was the perfect opportunity for a family adventure. With promises of natural springs, pink salt flats, and a family-run beach house, I couldn’t resist booking this unique experience in Progreso.
A Day of Discovery at El Corchito
Our adventure began at the Reserva Ecologica El Corchito, a hidden gem that felt like our own private paradise. As we arrived, our guide, Jesus, greeted us with a warm smile and a promise of an unforgettable day. We hopped into a small boat that took us across to the natural springs, where the kids were thrilled to spot raccoon-like creatures and other local wildlife. It was a peaceful start to the day, and we were lucky to have the place to ourselves, beating the larger tour groups to this serene spot.
The highlight for the kids was watching a thatched roof being replaced, a fascinating glimpse into local craftsmanship. It was a perfect blend of nature and culture, and the kids were full of questions, eager to learn more about the environment and the animals we encountered. As a family, we cherished this time together, exploring and learning in such a beautiful setting.
Pink Wonders at Xtampú
Next, we ventured to the salt flats of Xtampú, where the landscape was painted in shades of pink. The kids were amazed to learn about the algae, shrimp, and flamingos, and how they all contribute to the vibrant colors. Our guide, Paco, led us into the pools, where we had the unique experience of “mining” pink salt. It was a hands-on adventure that the kids absolutely loved, and they couldn’t wait to tell their friends about it.
We were treated to a delicious snack of homemade corn tortillas, salsa, guacamole, and pork, a feast for the senses that left us all wanting more. The hospitality was unmatched, and the kids felt right at home, making new friends and enjoying the warm, welcoming atmosphere. It was a perfect example of the kind of family bonding experiences I love to write about, where everyone feels included and engaged.
Family Fun at Sergio’s Beach House
Our final stop was Sergio’s Beach House, a family-run haven that felt like a home away from home. Jesus, our guide, introduced us to his family, who were busy preparing a mouthwatering buffet. The kids were delighted by the festive atmosphere, complete with a piñata and even a visit from the Grinch, who served tequila shots to the adults!
We spent the afternoon swimming in the pool, walking along the Gulf, and enjoying a leisurely lunch in the shade. The kids played happily, and my husband and I took a moment to relax and soak in the beauty of the surroundings. It was a day filled with laughter, learning, and love, the kind of day that makes family travel so rewarding.
As we headed back to the port, our hearts were full, and our spirits were high. We had experienced the best of Progreso, from its natural wonders to its rich culture and warm hospitality. It was a day we would never forget, and one I highly recommend to any family looking for a unique and enriching adventure. Sergio’s Tour
