A Journey Through the Clouds

As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for experiences that can captivate both adults and children alike. When I heard about the Teide by Night experience in Tenerife, I knew it was something I had to try. The idea of watching the sunset from above the clouds and then stargazing in one of the world’s best locations for it was too tempting to resist.

Our adventure began with a drive north from Los Cristianos, and I must admit, I was a bit skeptical about how an eight-hour tour could keep us engaged the entire time. Our next stop was Restaurante Papillon, the highest restaurant in the National Park. While I didn’t expect a gourmet meal, the simplicity of the three-course dinner was satisfying. The vegetable soup was comforting, and the main course of breadcrumb-coated chicken with Canarian wrinkled potatoes was a hit with the kids. The chocolate mousse dessert was a sweet ending to our meal, and the ample supply of drinks ensured everyone was refreshed and ready for the next part of our adventure.

As we left the restaurant, the anticipation for the sunset was palpable. We made our way to a vantage point where the view was nothing short of spectacular. Watching the sun dip into a sea of clouds, painting the sky in hues of pink, red, and purple, was a moment I’ll never forget. It was a reminder of why I love traveling with my family – sharing these awe-inspiring experiences together.

A Night Under the Stars

With the sun set and darkness enveloping the landscape, it was time for the highlight of the evening – stargazing. Victor’s enthusiasm for astronomy was infectious as he guided us through the constellations, planets, and even satellites visible to the naked eye. His laser pointer made it easy for everyone, including the kids, to follow along and learn about the myths and legends associated with the stars.

The telescopes were the final treat of the night. Pre-programmed to focus on specific celestial objects, they offered us a closer look at the moon, a pair of stars, and a mesmerizing nebula. For someone new to telescopes, it was a magical experience, and the kids were absolutely thrilled. It was the perfect way to end a day filled with wonder and discovery.

Reflecting on the experience, I can confidently say that the Teide by Night tour exceeded all expectations.
