Puerto Maldonado - From there, the journey continues to the port for a one-hour boat ride to the lodge, where a delightful regional fruit juice will be served upon arrival.
Tambopata National Reserve - After settling into accommodations, guests will embark on a two-hour guided hike through the lush tropical forest with a knowledgeable local guide. This trek offers the chance to see a variety of trees, some over five hundred years old, and observe wildlife such as toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, and butterflies. This hike provides an enchanting experience of the Amazon Rainforest within the Tambopata National Reserve, which spans 278,000 hectares of protected land under Peruvian law.
Puerto Maldonado - Following lunch, a visit to “Monkey Island” across the Madre de Dios River from the lodge is planned. Here, guests can observe various monkey species, including the brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, saddle-back tamarin, and white capuchin.
Madre de Dios Region - In the evening, a caiman search along the banks of the Madre de Dios River will take place. With some luck, the capybara, the world’s largest rodent weighing up to 60 kilos, may also be spotted. A flashlight is required for this activity.
Day 2
Puerto Maldonado - A brief boat ride will take guests to the entrance of Lake Sandoval.
Tambopata National Reserve - After passing through the checkpoint, a 3-kilometer (approximately 2-mile) walk to the lake awaits, which is one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve and home to piranhas.
Tambopata National Reserve - Upon arrival, the guide will provide a rowing boat for navigating the lake to observe a variety of birds and monkey species, including hoatzin cormorants, puma herons, eagles, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black capuchins, tamarins, and sloths. With some luck, the family of giant river otters (nearly two meters long) in danger of extinction, or the largest recorded alligator, over four meters long, may be seen.
Puerto Maldonado - The tour concludes with a return to the city.
