Puerto Maldonado - Guests will be transported to Puerto Capitania between 09:00 - 10:00 AM. From there, a boat ride of approximately 40 minutes will take them to the Paradise Amazon Ecolodge.
The team will assist with the registration process. After a brief pause, the adventure through the Tambopata National Reserve will commence.
Tambopata National Reserve - CANOPY WALK:
From the lodge, a 200-meter walk leads to the Canopy Tower (35 m high), constructed at the base of a giant Lupuna tree. Visitors can observe a variety of bird species here. A local expert will provide detailed information about the area’s flora and fauna.
Tambopata National Reserve - ZIP LINING:
Following the canopy walk, guests will enjoy zip-lining. A local instructor will offer safety instructions before descending a 190-meter-long slide. Monitors will welcome and assist in crossing a small 100m bridge.
Afterward, guests will return to the lodge where the team will prepare a traditional Amazonian lunch. Relaxation on hammocks follows.
Tambopata National Reserve - KAYAK:
Kayaking at sunrise is next. The team will help gather all necessary safety gear. A security boat will accompany to ensure passenger safety. Guests can then cool off in the Madre de Dios River.
Tambopata National Reserve - MONKEY ISLAND:
A 15-minute journey to Monkey Island follows kayaking the Madre de Dios River. Visitors will see capuchin monkeys, black monkeys (Cebus apella), and white monkeys (Cebus albifrons). Many of these species are naturally friendly.
The return to the resort is around 4:30 p.m. after this wonderful excursion, with a chance to witness the sunset.
Tambopata National Reserve - CAIMANO:
After enjoying the Amazon sunset, an alligator-spotting boat cruise is next. The glow from their eyes will help locate them at night. At 07:30 PM, guests will return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.
Lake Sandoval – Night Walk
Tambopata National Reserve - Birds will awaken guests for a delightful Amazonian breakfast. The typical breakfast includes fresh fruit juice, freshly brewed Peruvian coffee, eggs, pancakes, fried plantains, and more.
At 9:30 a.m., guests will cross the river to the checkpoint. Registration occurs here before embarking on a three-kilometer hike to Lake Sandoval.
A variety of plants and animals can be seen. Giant river otters and other wildlife may also be spotted.
Lago Sandoval - A fantastic meal is available at Lake Sandoval. Then, a boat ride to the lake’s center offers more bird and wildlife viewing.
Anhingas, cormorants, and hoatzins are among the species observed. After experiencing life on Lake Sandoval, guests will return to the resort.
Lago Sandoval - At 06:30 p.m., a walk in the protected area begins to view additional nocturnal wildlife. The guide will provide detailed information.
Dinner at the lodge is at 7:30 p.m.
Native Family Visit – Sport Fishing
Tambopata National Reserve - Guests will awaken to an Amazonian breakfast. At around 10:00 a.m., a walk to a native community begins. An indigenous family of former warriors and hunters, known for their artwork, will be visited. Purchases are optional.
In the afternoon, after lunch, a boat trip to a ravine for fishing is planned. Catfish, damsels, sardines, and piranhas inhabit the river.
Taricaya
Lago Sandoval - On the fourth day of exploring the Reserve, the following flora and wildlife projects will be visited:
-
AGROFORESTRY AND CAOBAS PROJECT:
An agroforestry system focused on reforestation and sustainable agriculture. Mahogany, cedar, flowers, and exotic fruits are present. This initiative provides locals with a sustainable land use option. -
TARICAYA RESCUE CENTER:
A facility where animals are cared for by local authorities. These animals were rescued from individuals removing them from the forest. They arrive in rehabilitation programs injured, ill, or malnourished. Efforts are made to reintroduce them to their natural habitat, aiding the recovery of native wildlife.
Lago Sandoval - 3. OBSERVATION PLATFORMS:
In 2005, the CANOPY WALKWAY was established. It is a 90-meter suspension bridge built atop a 300-year-old Lupuna tree (45 m). As the highest natural viewing point in the forest, it also serves as a bird monitoring station.
-
TARICAYA TURTLE PROJECT:
In 2006, the Turtle Repopulation Project began to save this endangered species. Locals collect the eggs for consumption and sale. Between July and September, staff and volunteers gather the eggs and place them on the Reserve’s artificial beaches before releasing the turtles into their natural habitat.
Lago Sandoval - 5. BUTTERFLY PROJECT:
The butterfly farm was established in 2010 to educate people about the biology of these species. This initiative offers a sustainable alternative to animal commercialization.
-
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT:
Since 2001, collaboration with various local communities, including the Juan Pablo Farmers Association and the Palma Real Native Community, has been ongoing. Assistance is provided in environmental education and natural resource management initiatives.
