Great operator! After we... - Great operator! After we walked out of the Taino Bay port, we quickly and easily connected with our driver, our tour guide (Mara) and our air conditioned bus in a group of 13. With a pickup of 9:30 am, we were one of the first groups down the falls and avoided the crowds we passed coming back down. Our guide (Junior) kept us safe and moved us through smoothly. Everyone (three teens, 2 adults) enjoyed our trip. Mara was bright and engaging, and helpful in explaining logistics.
The buffet lunch at the park was excellent. We bought the photo package ($60) and got great photos for the kids.
The stop at the cultural center for some shopping was good too.
Bring cash for tipping the waterfall guide separately from the driver and bus guide. As far as photos go, they take cash, PayPal and Apple Cash, and they are loaded directly onto your phone.

Incredible Adventure – Highly Recommended! - This was an excellent excursion from start to finish. We were picked up in a comfortable, air-conditioned motorcoach and taken about 20 to 25 minutes from the cruise port to the falls. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted, fitted with life jackets and helmets, and provided lockers for our belongings. Water shoes are highly recommended. If you don’t have your own, you can rent them there along with the lockers. Bottled water was provided..
The hike to the waterfalls was about 20 to 25 minutes and relatively easy, though you do walk uphill, over rocky terrain, and across some light streams. When we reached the waterfall, it was absolutely breathtaking. There’s a natural pool at the base where you swim across to a ladder that you climb to the top. Once there, you can choose to do an 18-foot jump and/or go down a natural rock slide. I did both, and they were awesome.
This tour is perfect for anyone who loves nature and wants a bit of adventure. I would absolutely do it again and highly recommend it to others.

Great experience and great company - This was such a great tour! We all agreed that it was the highlight of all of our shore excursions, and highly recommend it. The company was excellent and very communicative from the moment we booked. We chose to book locally for a port excursion during a cruise and were so happy that we did. We found the bus easily outside the port thanks to Jennifer's instructions, and enjoyed the ride and information about the local cities and life from Papichulo. Alex was our photographer and captured some great shots. Buco was our local guide at the falls and made sure everyone was safe. We ended up in a larger group with folks who booked through our cruise line and paid more. The buffet lunch was really good (I especially liked the grilled fish) and we had a nice stop at a local coffee brewer where we got to see how coffee (and chocolate) are made.
A few tips based on other reviews.
Book the earliest time possible. We met the bus at 830AM and were at the falls before they became crowded. Our group was no larger than 25 people which made for an efficient walk with not much waiting around. A few reviewers commented on crowding which has nothing to do with the tour company, and everything to do with the number of ships in port (and there are two ports). When we were leaving at around noon there were several busses in the lot, and people would likely have to wait. We still had time to explore the port before boarding.
It can be about a 45 minute hike (only 15 Dominican minutes according to one of our guides) but they build in rest stops and wait for people to catch up. We (ages 50, 48, 12 and 8 and about average fitness) all wore water shoes and were fine. I could see how some folks would want more substantial shoes (all the guides wore trainers), but we navigated it fine in water shoes.
If you book through the cruise lines you cannot do the jumps, only the slides. If you want to jump, be sure to book local. Also be sure to chat with the local guides. They had some really interesting things to say about the falls and DR in general.
Enjoy the experiences of the shopping stops! It was fun to watch cigars being rolled (even though I do not smoke), to see how petrified wood is carved, and to learn the history of coffee and chocolate making (we even got to use the pilon to grind coffee beans). Yes they are trying to sell you souvenirs, but tourism is a major source of revenue for the local people, and you are there as tourists.

Amazing experience! - Everyone was really nice and helpful! Great experience we did 3 slides and a jump. The water was beautiful and so was the scenery. The great benefit of going with DSRR is that you are in a smaller group and you get a more personal experience especially with the photos. Overall my boyfriend and I agree this was a 10/10 once in a lifetime experience!

Very good - A bit of a hike, but well worth it. Guides were excellent. You can rent shoes at the start if needed. The jumps are higher than you may think, so be ready. Don’t think about it, just do it.

Exceded our expectations from start to finish! - The driver and all staff involved were amazing! They were wonderful with pick-up communications and so very kind and friendly throughout!
We felt that we and our belongings were very safe and in good hands! Thanks to our driver, Johny! No worries at all about our money and phones being left with them while we hiked! (I wish I had brought my whole wallet-I would have loved to have purchased more in their artisan gift shop AND tip all of them more!)
The hike to the waterfalls was fun and gorgeous. They had a wonderful and friendly photographer accompany us and caught all of our fun moments! Such a friendly guy too! Thanks, Ezekiel!
Mara was such a delightful guide and was wonderful with the fun coffee/chocolate excursion and lunch afterward! Excellent communication and information!
The falls were so fun and beautiful! The whole experience was a ten from start to finish!

Perfect DR excursion - When our cruise dropped one of our ports and added Amber Cove, I knew that I wanted an exciting day for my whole family, as we had already toured Puerto Plata on a previous visit. We dislike the cruise ship excursions as they are crowded and overpriced. Damajagua was exactly what I was looking for. We had a short walk to meet the bus outside the port gates and were greeted by Mara, Alex, and Johnny Cash. Mara was the perfect host! She explained exactly where we were headed and the day's activities. The van was air-conditioned, so it was really nice. Once at Damajagua, our guide, Buco, took us up the path to the falls. He stopped often to make sure that everyone was not too winded. We loved the refreshing temperature of the water and loved jumping and sliding our way down! It was just the 6 of us, so we felt like we had been given a private tour! The lunch afterwards was fantastic! Loved the rice and beans and the chicken the most! We enjoyed our mamajuana shots, but also purchased some Presidente beer. We stopped on the way back to the ship to learn about coffee and cocoa grinding and to see locally made art. Purchased some coffee to bring home. Mara then had the van stop to get us fresh mango and a coconut!
The site says this tour is for people up to 60, but my husband and I are 62 and 63, and we did not have any trouble with the hike or the slides. They do have several first aid stations along the route in case of emergencies.
I would definitely do this excursion again if I find myself back in DR.

Damajagua Tour!!! - Excellent adventure tour, Luis S. was our driver and he was so helpful and just a great guy. They have lockers available at the base and the hike is a bit rough but I am a fat guy and I made it without too much huffing. Book thru TripAdvisor and save 40-50% over the cruise line.
