- Casa Santo Domingo Museums - This is the largest Monastery in Antigua Guatemala. Situated on the grounds of the Santo Domingo Monastery, Casa Santo Domingo originally served as a key convent in the Americas. The residents followed the order of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, and the monastery provided them with refuge. Its history dates back to 1538 when the first Dominicans arrived in Guatemala. At that time, the monastery was a grand structure with two towers and ten bells, filled with treasures and relics. Sadly, the Santa Marta earthquake in 1773 partially destroyed it, but what remains is a monument preserving the baroque architecture and treasures of that era. The ancient walls, brick archways, and tile corridors reflect the history of the original Casa Santo Domingo. Today, part of the ruins has been transformed into Antigua’s only five-star hotel, which opened in 1989.
- Antigua Guatemala Central Park - Explore the Main Square, featuring its distinctive Mermaid fountain, gardens, public buildings, and the stunning Cathedral.
- Arco de Santa Catalina - Next, visit the most iconic spot in Antigua Guatemala: The Arch Street, home to the Santa Catalina Arch. This location has become the emblem of Antigua and is featured on most postcards. Originally, this arch was constructed by the Santa Catarina Mártir Convent in 1693 as a bridge to connect both sides of the street, allowing the nuns to remain unseen. Prepare to capture breathtaking photos!
- Iglesia de La Merced - As you stroll through, you will reach La Merced Church, a prime example of Guatemalan Baroque architecture from the 17th century. It stands as one of the most exquisite examples of Baroque architecture in Antigua Guatemala.
- Iglesia del Carmen - El Carmen Church was constructed in the mid-17th century. Unfortunately, it suffered destruction from several earthquakes that struck the city over time. The final earthquake, the Santa Marta earthquake in 1773, left the church in its current state. During the visit, you will appreciate the history of this remarkable building, take stunning photos, and conclude the tour by visiting the handicraft market located next to the church. Here, you can purchase beautiful handicrafts made from textiles, indigenous fabrics, wood, metal, precious stones like jade, ceramics, leather, glass, rhinestones, and more.
- Sacatepequez Department - After exploring all the magnificent monuments, the group will head to a delightful restaurant for lunch. A variety of options, including traditional dishes, will be available. The group will spend an hour at the restaurant before returning to the cruise ship.
- Puerto Quetzal - At the conclusion of this fantastic tour, the group will return to the cruise ship. The road trip will take about an hour and a half, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenic landscapes.
