Surfing the Wild Side: A Costa Rican Adventure
When the waves of Costa Rica called, I knew it was time for a new adventure. Join me as I explore the vibrant wildlife and stunning parks of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, blending relaxation with the thrill of discovery.
Arrival in Paradise
The moment my wife and I touched down in Costa Rica, we were greeted with the warmest of welcomes. Our driver, Davíd, was waiting for us with a cooler of ice-cold beers, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable adventure. As we cruised through the lush landscapes, I couldn’t help but feel the familiar pull of the ocean calling my name. But this trip was about more than just chasing waves; it was about exploring the vibrant wildlife and stunning parks that Costa Rica has to offer.
Our first stop was the Cariblue Beach and Jungle Resort, a haven nestled between the jungle and the sea. Checking in felt like stepping into a dream, with the sound of the waves crashing in the distance and the scent of tropical flowers in the air. It was the perfect base for our adventures, offering both comfort and a touch of wildness.
Exploring the Wild Side
The next day, we set out for the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge with our guide, Greivin. His passion for Costa Rica’s natural beauty was infectious, and he brought the trails and beaches to life with his stories. As we hiked through the dense jungle, I marveled at the vibrant flora and fauna, each step revealing a new wonder. The lookout points offered breathtaking views of the coastline, a reminder of the raw beauty that this country holds.
After a morning of exploration, we found ourselves on the sandy shores of Playa Manzanillo. The beach was a slice of paradise, with its golden sands and crystal-clear waters. We spent the afternoon lounging under the sun, savoring the laid-back vibe that I’ve come to love in my travels. It was a day that perfectly captured the essence of Costa Rica—wild, beautiful, and utterly relaxing.
A Day of Relaxation and Reflection
Our journey continued with a visit to the Jaguar Rescue Center, a place dedicated to the conservation of Costa Rica’s incredible wildlife. It was a humbling experience to learn about the efforts being made to protect these animals and their habitats. The center’s work resonated deeply with me, reminding me of the importance of preserving the natural world that we surfers hold so dear.
The rest of the day was spent exploring the beaches of Cocles, where the waves beckoned me to grab a board and hit the surf. But this trip was about more than just riding waves; it was about embracing the full spectrum of experiences that Costa Rica has to offer. As the sun set over the horizon, I felt a profound sense of gratitude for the journey we were on.
Our final day was spent at Playa Punta Uva, a fitting end to our adventure. The beach was a tranquil oasis, offering a moment of reflection before we headed back to reality. As we checked out of Hotel Bugabutik, I knew that this trip would stay with us forever—a perfect blend of wildlife, parks, and comfort that captured the spirit of Costa Rica.
