After exploring Uros, meet the families who have constructed their homes entirely from bundled reeds. They will demonstrate how the islands remain afloat and share stories passed down through generations of living on the water. Then, board a motorboat to Amantani Island, leaving the tourist routes behind for a 2.5-hour crossing. On Amantani, a local family will welcome you into their home for the night. Share meals cooked over wood fires—potatoes and quinoa grown on the island’s terraced slopes. Assist with evening chores if you wish, or simply relax and watch the sun set behind the western peaks. At this altitude, with no light pollution, the stars appear sharp and bright.
On the second day, visit Taquile, where stone pathways zigzag down from the main plaza to the harbor. Locals in traditional dress display textiles they have woven themselves. Return to Puno around 3:30pm.
