- Uros - Begin your adventure with an early pickup around 7 AM, followed by a delightful 1-hour paddle across Lake Titicaca, situated at an impressive 3,812 meters above sea level. The Andes encircle the lake, and the morning light at this altitude is uniquely sharp and clear.
Your journey will lead you through the Lake Titicaca National Reserve, where lush totora reeds line the shores, forming channels in the water. These reeds provide a haven for ducks, herons, and egrets year-round, with flamingos making seasonal appearances. You’ll likely hear them before you see them—their wings slicing through the water and calls resonating across the lake’s surface.
The paddling is gentle and not demanding. At this time of day, before the afternoon winds arise, the water remains quite calm. Your kayak is low enough to bring you eye-level with the reed beds, allowing you to observe the totora stalks bending and rustling as birds navigate through them. The morning air is cool and crisp, and the silence between paddle strokes is profound—this area of the lake is less frequented by boats compared to the main tourist paths. You’ll have the opportunity to pause, take in the surroundings, and capture photos from a vantage point that most visitors to Uros never get to experience.
Secure your spot and discover Uros in a way that few travelers do.
