Puno - Start your journey by boarding the bus from Cusco to Puno, traversing the captivating Andes landscape. Embark on this scenic trip to Puno, passing through the enchanting Andes scenery. Prepare for three unforgettable stops. The first stop is at Andahuaylillas, a picturesque town 40 kilometers from Cusco. The highlight here is the stunning church of Andahuaylillas, often called the ‘Sistine Chapel of America’ due to its gilded baroque interior and exquisite frescoes. Marvel at this 16th-century landmark and take a look at the recently restored original pipe organ inside before proceeding to Racchi. Here, admire the impressive Temple of Wiracocha, a fascinating rectangular structure resembling a wall with windows and doors, measuring 30 meters wide by 20 meters high. Continue your adventure with a delightful lunch break in Sicuani, followed by a brief stop at La Raya, the highest point of the journey between Puno and Cusco, at 4,313 meters above sea level. Next, visit the charming town of Pucara, the first urban settlement in the lake area, developed between 100 and 300 AD. Explore the intriguing Pucara Lithic Museum before heading to the city of Puno and arriving at your hotel.

Puno: Lake Titicaca - Uros and Taquile Islands

Lake Titicaca - After breakfast at the hotel, head to the port of Puno where a boat awaits to take you to the stunning Uros Islands. The Uros are an indigenous group in Peru living on a series of man-made islands, crafted entirely from the buoyant totora reeds that grow abundantly in the lake’s shallows. The islands consist of layers of woven totora, regularly replenished from the top as they decompose from the bottom. The Uros also use reeds to build their homes, so cooking is done outdoors to prevent fires! After exploring this fascinating island, sail to Taquile, a small paradise that was once part of the Inca Empire. Observe traces of its Incan heritage in the ruins scattered around the island. Following a brief introduction, the local community will share insights into their customs and traditions through a cultural demonstration. Enjoy lunch on the island before returning to Puno.
