- Tarcoles - The Tarcoles River is where the boat tour operates, offering a chance to admire the large crocodiles and abundant wildlife. Known as the Grande de Tárcoles River or the Río Grande de Tarcoles, it originates on the southern slopes of the Cordillera Central volcanic range and flows southwest to the Gulf of Nicoya. The Tarcoles River is renowned in Costa Rica; as you drive over the Tarcoles Bridge, you can see at least a dozen impressive crocodiles sunbathing below. The river flows towards the Pacific coast, stretching 111 kilometers before reaching its final destination. The Tarcoles River is teeming with crocodiles, some reaching lengths of three to four meters (12 feet). These creatures are best observed from a safe distance, and visiting the bridge offers a great way to see them safely.
