- Putra Mosque - Overlooking the picturesque Putrajaya Lake, the Putra Mosque stands as one of Putrajaya’s most iconic landmarks and among the world’s most contemporary mosques. It exemplifies the evolution of mosque architecture in Malaysia, artistically merging traditional designs, local craftsmanship, and indigenous materials.
The mosque draws inspiration from Persian Islamic architecture of the Safavid era, incorporating elements from various Muslim cultures. Featuring Malaysian, Persian, and Arab-Islamic architectural styles, the mosque’s main entrance is designed to resemble the gates of public buildings in Muslim Persia.
- Jonker Street - Jonker Street, the central street of Chinatown, is home to clothing and craft shops as well as restaurants. The highlight of Jonker Street is the night market on Fridays and Saturdays, offering everything from delicious snacks to affordable souvenirs.
- Christ Church - Constructed by the Dutch after they seized Malacca from the Portuguese, Christ Church is one of Malacca’s most prominent structures. Located along Jalan Gereja (Church Street), it is a striking brick-red building with a large white cross on top. Opposite the Stadhuys, Christ Church was erected in 1753 to commemorate a century of Dutch rule. Inside, the cathedral features 20-year-old handmade pews, decorative fanlights, and plaques honoring Dutch soldiers and locals.
- St. Paul’s Hill & Church (Bukit St. Paul) - The remnants of St. Paul’s Church are perched atop St. Paul’s Hill. Built on the site of the last Malaccan sultan’s palace, it was constructed by Portuguese nobleman captain, Duarte Coelho, in gratitude to the Virgin Mary for saving his life during a sea storm.
Now roofless and covered in ferns, it was originally named Nossa Senhora da Annunciada (Our Lady of the Annunciation). Despite being in ruins for over 150 years, it remains a beautiful, breezy sanctuary (accessible via a steep staircase) near the remnants of A’ Famosa Fort.
- Malacca River - Strolling along the Melaka River offers a wonderful way to explore Melaka’s sights at a relaxed pace, comfortably and affordably.
The Melaka River is the birthplace of the town and has played a significant role in Melaka’s vibrant history.
- Melaka Straits Mosque - The Malacca Straits Mosque is among Malaysia’s most stunning mosques. Also known as Masjid Selat Melaka, it is situated on the busiest and longest straits. Built on the man-made island of Pulau Melaka, the mosque appears to float in the ocean when the tide is high. The opening ceremony was conducted by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail on 24 November 2006. The drive offers breathtaking views of the entire Malacca city coastline.
