- Juma Mosque - The Juma Mosque of Shamakhi, also known as the Friday Mosque of Shamakhi (Azerbaijani: Şamaxı Cümə Məscidi), is located in Shamakhi, Azerbaijan. The mosque’s construction dates back to 743-744, based on research by a geological commission from Tiflis, led by Prince Shahgulu Qajar. This date is confirmed by the Arabic inscription on the mosque’s facade, indicating the year 126 in the Islamic calendar as its founding year.[1] During this period, the construction of new religious structures, such as mosques, began in Azerbaijan. The historical architecture of ancient Islamic monuments is linked to Arab rule and the spread of Islam in Azerbaijan. The Friday Mosque of Shamakhi is regarded as the first mosque in the Caucasus, following the cathedral Friday Mosque of Derbent, built in 734.
- Nohur Gol - The stunning Lake Nohur, with its breathtaking view of the Caucasus Mountains, fresh air, and clear water, is one of Gabala’s most scenic spots. Visitors are captivated by the lake’s beauty. The tranquil atmosphere and the sound of birds provide an ideal setting for relaxation, away from the city’s hustle and bustle. Although swimming is not allowed (as the lake serves as a reservoir and supplies drinking water to Gabala and nearby areas), it is an excellent location for fishing. Visitors can also enjoy boat and catamaran rides while taking in the surrounding landscape.
- Tufandag Mountain Resort - Upon arriving in Gabala, the first stop is the Tufandag cable road. Whether for skiing or enjoying the stunning summer views of the Alpine scenery behind Gabala, visitors can hop on the Tufandag network of four cable cars. Note: Entry to the complex is free, but the cable car costs 14 AZN per person for two stops and 24 AZN for the full route.
