• Midhope Castle - The journey begins with a visit to Lallybroch (Midhope Castle), the ancestral home of Jamie Fraser. Scenes were filmed at Midhope Castle, located near South Queensferry.

Midhope Castle was originally constructed in the 15th century by John Martyne, the laird of Medhope. It underwent reconstruction in the mid-1600s and has remained uninhabited for over a century.

• Doune Castle - Doune Castle serves as the backdrop for Castle Leoch in Outlander. It appears twice in the first episode of Outlander: first in 1945 when Claire and Frank Randall visit, and then in 1743 when Claire touches the stones, meets Jamie, and they escape to Castle Leoch. • Luss - Luss village is a charming conservation village on the western shore of Loch Lomond, offering a direct view of Ben Lomond. Luss is an ideal location for filming a historic romance like Outlander.
• Balvaird Castle - Balvaird Castle was likely constructed in the late 1400s, with significant enhancements made in the 1500s. Most tower houses from this era now stand alone in their settings. The four-storey tower is accompanied by:
  • Inner and outer courtyards
  • Service buildings, now mostly represented by wall footings
  • A formal walled garden
  • A large walled ‘pleasance’ or park

Balvaird Castle was the residence of the Murrays of Balvaird, who expanded and remodeled the property over approximately 150 years. They eventually relocated to Scone in 1658.
