- Atherton Tablelands - Departing from Cairns, the journey heads south, passing by Walsh’s Pyramid, one of the largest naturally formed pyramids globally. The guide will pause here for a photo opportunity of this unique North Queensland landmark. The trip continues up the World Heritage-listed Gillies Highway, ascending 730 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views over the Goldsborough Valley. Just before reaching the top of the stunning Gillies Range, there is a brief stop at Heales Lookout for photos before entering the beautiful Atherton Tablelands.
- Lake Barrine - Enjoy a peaceful morning stop at the stunning Lake Barrine, a crater lake filled with pristine rainwater and surrounded by World Heritage-listed rainforest rich with wildlife.
This is the first stop of the day and includes a delightful morning tea. Lake Barrine is renowned for its award-winning ‘Devonshire Morning Tea’ featuring freshly baked scones with jam and cream, accompanied by locally brewed tea or coffee.
- Curtain Fig National Park - After departing Lake Barrine, a short journey through charming country towns and farming areas leads to the remarkable 600-year-old Curtain Fig Tree, nestled in World Heritage Mabi rainforest. This is the world’s most visited tree, easily accessible via elevated boardwalks.
The surrounding rainforest is home to the elusive Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo, found only in Queensland, often spotted high in the trees during certain seasons.
- Millaa Millaa Waterfall - Leaving the Curtain Fig Tree, the tour travels through scenic farming areas and country villages to visit the world-famous Millaa Millaa Falls, one of Australia’s most renowned and photographed waterfalls, surrounded by Mabi rainforest. This waterfall has featured in television advertisements and movies.
The waterfall cascades over solid volcanic basalt rock, formed thousands of years ago, creating a perfect 20-meter drop into a pool encircled by rainforest.
- Paronella Park - In the cool afternoon, the tour visits the incredible Paronella Park, featuring Spanish-style castles in the rainforest. This includes a 45-minute tour expertly conducted by Paronella Park’s knowledgeable guides, who speak English, Chinese, and Japanese.
Paronella Park is a multi-award-winning tourist attraction with National Trust-listed heritage gardens and castle ruins, also home to North Queensland’s first hydro-electric power plant, all built by Jose Paronella at Mena Creek Falls. Originally created in the 1930s by Jose Paronella, a visionary.
