Morning Tour of Manuel Antonio - Our guide, Diego, was excellent. His explanations were very engaging and informative. His description of the toileting habits of sloths will stay with me forever. Highly recommend the tour!

Great naturalist guides - Our guide was very knowledgeable and found lots of hidden creatures including bats, porcupines, and some really cool spiders and bugs. We saw howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and a sloth.
He knew all the species names of each of the animals and helped me find them in my Costa Rica animals app.
When we got to the beach we found out there was some snorkeling at the end of the beach near the rocks. We were excited and went to get our gear out of our car. We enjoyed the snorkeling but the visibility was not great and the surf was a bit high to feel really safe. (We liked Playa Biesanz better for snorkeling.)

Highly recommend Alonso 1000% - Diego connected us with Alonso for our tour guide and my sister and I had an amazing time at Manuel Antonio National Park. Alonso was hilarious and had us laughing the entire time but he was also so knowledgeable and we learned so much about the land and the animals. We saw 2 sloths carrying babies, birds, monkeys, iguanas, spiders, toucans, porcupines, and so much more. Alonso told us stories and kept us entertained. It is true what they say that you need a guide. The guides know where to look for the animals, as they often camouflage with trees and other things to protect themselves against predators. The guides also have special equipment that they use to spot animals that are far away. They are also knowledgeable enough to keep you safe during your journey. Do yourself a favor and book an unforgettable experience!

Recommend Alanzo As Your Tour Guide ~ - My sister and I visited the park and had Alanzo as our guide.
Wow! What an experience.
I thought originally we don’t need a guide, and that we would see animals on our own. No, not the case — we absolutely needed an experienced tour guide, and now I can truly say I wouldn’t have been able to see 100% of the animals we spotted. So grateful he has 10 years of experience touring.
The amazing animals we saw were 2 different mama sloths with their babies (rare), toucans, porcupines, spider moneys and iguanas. So incredible to see nature in its natural habitat and the parks eco system living their best life. The complete opposite to “zoo’s” in the US. The animals in Manuel Antonio National Park are happy and actually want to be seen frolicking in the wild. However, our guide explained how each animal has evolved and adapted to be camouflaged to protect themselves from predators.
Lastly, we were able to grab a bite to eat, to drink (I got an organic green juice, yum!) and go to look at the parks souvenirs. There were restrooms, changing areas and places to get drinking water. Bring a non-plastic refillable bottle!!!! If you forget, you can drink from the watering stations throughout the park, and the water was clean, and fresh. Also, just after the tour we headed to one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and in my opinion — ever. White sand, clear blue water, rainforests, mountains, monkeys and beautiful sunshine. Paradise ~
Highly - HIGHLY recommend Alanzo as your tour guide. Kind, hilarious, lively, intuitive, knowledgeable, and such a vast understanding and keen sharp shooter sight of the park. We saw so many animals, which was rare but easily missed with the naked eye.
11/10 would recommend

Not as advertised - While we had a fabulous guide and saw a lot of wildlife I was disappointed to not get the tour I booked.
We saw sloths and an anteater and many monkeys.
I booked a small tour in English. I got a group of 14 speaking English and Spanish. This slowed the whole tour down. It took longer to look at things as it was a large group including one child who took exceptionally long to view. Explanations were in English and Spanish so we stood for twice as long listening.
The guide was late arriving and I had to ask a local for assistance. He tried calling but got no answer. We then had to wait around longer for extra tour members to arrive. In all I lost 30 minutes of the tour standing around waiting to start.
While I saw a lot, I’m disappointed that I did not get the advertised tour that I booked.

Our guide, Gustavo was a... - Our guide, Gustavo was a good spotting animals and had a good telescope to see the animals very well. He allowed everybody to have time to take a good look at animals and take photos with own phones. You basically have to join a tour to fully enjoy animals in Manuel Antonio. It's very hard to spot with untrained eyes and without a good telescope. The entry tickets to the park online were sold out. It seems only tour agencies have entry tickets unless you booked in a well advance. I usually prefer not to join a tour but I am glad we did. We learned a lot and spotted a couple of sloths, monkeys, birds, iguanas, lizards, etc. Enjoyed the tour very much.

Guide didn't show up; we didn't get to go go. - Unfortunately the Guide didn't show up. After waiting around for over an hour, and talking to several other guides who said they would call him, we finally had one of them tell us that he wasn't coming because he couldn't get tickets to get in the park. He did refund our payment after we communicated through another person in the tour company. Fortunately, we were trying to relax and embrace "tico time," so we went to brunch at a nearby restaurant before riding the bus back to Quepos. It would have been preferable to receive communication before we waited around for an hour. I will say the line to enter was very long. We opted not to go during our stay, and ended up booking a stay at MountainTop Park Hotel, where we saw the same animals on a guided tour that was included, with no crowds.
