Beitif Hummingbirds and empanadas!! - Amazing trip with Andre who was a superb host, very knowledgeable of the local wildlife, fauna and made the day for us!
The hummingbirds sanctuary was the highlight, and then he took us for the best empanadas we’ve had on the whole trip.

Great tour! - We loved this tour! Andres was knowledgeable and so helpful throughout the day. We did the longer/more strenuous hike and the waterfall was totally worth it! We had a good amount of time at each place, and having the hummingbirds eat out of our hands was so cool. Could not recommend this tour highly enough!

Highly recommend this tour! - We had a wonderful adventure day with Andres during this tour. We got picked up on time, had a nice little hike to see waterfalls in the Cloud Forest and learn about orchids and different flora along the way. We lived our Disney Princess moment of having beautiful hummingbirds landing on our hands and feeding on sugar water and also got to feed butterflies on our hand at the Butterfly Garden. The Chocolate tour was awesome and we learned a lot about cacao and the entire process of how chocolate is made! (Plus tasting of each process from cacao fruit to toasted beans to tea and chocolates!)
When we went, per person extra fees were $5 to the cloud forest, $8.5 to the butterfly garden and $10.5 for the chocolate tour.
Ines was very good with communication and Andres was an awesome guide! Highly recommend this tour, described as small group but felt very private!

Cloud Forest, Mindo & More - Thank you, Ine (coordinator and liaison thru WhatsApp) and Andrés (tour guide and driver) for excellent communication and organization of diverse activities.
Ine contacted us by WhatsApp to check ion the best location for pickup -and changed it to our Air BNB and not the closest hotel. She also gave us the name and photo of our driver/tour guide and his car to know who to look for. At the end of tour, she sent us a photo of the types of birds we can see in Ecuador.
Andrés was punctual, knowledgeable, engaging., and had great relationships with vendors and proprietors. He gave us a choice between a less steep and steeper hike to the waterfall in the Cloud Forest - we are glad we chose the less steep route, not because we were out of shape, but it’s slippery when wet. Beautiful plants and flowers - which Andrés described and explained.
We enjoyed birdwatching and hummingbird feeding at San Tadeo birding. Andrés pointed out the varieties of birds, then showed us how to feed hummingbirds by placing a dish of sugar water in our hand. Amazing to see metallic colored hummingbirds, hear and feel them up close in our hands beating at 80 flaps per second. Definitely a highlight!
Mariposas of Mindo was a butterfly garden where we watched a video of the butterfly life stages then explored the garden of butterflies flitting about or feeding on bananas, pineapples, and watermelon. Again, Andrés showed us the technique of feeding butterflies with banana on our fingers, then getting them to alight on the finger by bending and twisting the finger. Much mote challenging than attracting hummingbirds, but Andrés is a pro.
Lunch was at a local restaurant, where we ordered before going to the butterfly garden. We ordered rainbow trout - with a large glass of fruit drink - refreshing guanabana or soutsop and blackberry. I think there are other fruits like passion fruit.
Mindo Maya chocolate tour introduced us the chocolate trees, beans, and chocolate making process. We tried the chocolate fruit drink (white and sweet), chocolate seed pulp (the golden national one and a CCN51 variety, dried and toasted chocolate beans, chocolate shell tea, and flavored chocolate - orange, tropical, coffee, mint, lemongrass, peanut, a local fruit tasting like cardamom, ginger among a vast array. We poured warm liquid chocolate into a mold and used the remains of liquid chocolate for a chocolate facial mask!
Andrés was informative about Ecuador’s geography, fauna, flora, cuisine, politics, economy, and culture. He made recommendations for restaurants and chocolate stores/brand in Quito. We are grateful to have met him and be part of this tour with a superb sample of what Ecuador has to offer.
Note additional fees, T this time in 3/2025:

Amazing visit to the cloud forest - I was captivated by the vibrant toucans and the delightful hummingbirds that flitted around me. It was a breathtaking experience to feed them from my hand, watching as they hovered in mid-air, their iridescent feathers shimmering in the light. A visit to the chocolate factory was equally extraordinary, offering an incredible opportunity to learn about the rich diversity of Ecuador. It’s fascinating to think that in a single day, you can journey from the Snowcloud Mountains, with their misty peaks, to the lush, equatorial forests teeming with life and color.
