• Mercado Inaquito - It is suggested to begin the morning without breakfast. The tour guide will arrive at 10:00 AM to embark on an exciting journey through the old town. As the guide shares insights about Ecuador’s and Quito’s history, the Inca Empire, the Spanish conquest, and the independence and republican era, there will be a chance to explore new flavors! The first stop is a visit to a local market, known as Mercado Central, where various exotic tropical fruits and local specialties from the Sierra region can be sampled.
• Plaza de la Independencia (Plaza Grande) - During the walk, the tour will pass through Independence Square, a site of many significant revolutionary battles in Ecuador’s history. Here, there will be an opportunity to taste a variety of traditional salty and sweet pastries. The tour will also include views of the Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the Church of the Sacred Society of Jesus of Quito, a pinnacle of Latin American Baroque architecture.
• Calle La Ronda - The tour continues to the charming neighborhood of La Ronda, where a chocolate tasting is available, followed by a visit to the Convent of San Francisco, established in 1540.
• El Panecillo - The tour will then proceed uphill to “El Panecillo,” where the winged Virgin Mary of Quito stands, recognized as the tallest aluminum statue in the world. While enjoying a delicious traditional homemade cocktail called “canelazo,” there will be a breathtaking view of the old town, new town, and southern Quito, including the stunning snow-capped volcanoes: Cotopaxi (19,350 ft), Antisana (18,874 ft), and Cayambe (18,996 ft). The tour concludes with a return to the hotel at approximately 2:00 PM, marking the end of an authentic and delightful city tour!
