LONELY PLANET. - Rucu Pichincha - Facing this mountain, the north is to the right and the south to the left, with Quito stretching approximately 64 km in length and 4 km in width, beginning from this active volcano.
- Tambillo - A place where people often stop to rest and enjoy a meal. Known in Quechua as Tambo, this small spot is called Tambillo.
- Machachi - As we explore some of Quito’s significant neighborhoods while departing the city, we observe the contrast between the northern and southern parts. The Cordillera de Los Andes divides into two lines, revealing stunning views of prominent mountains and snow-capped peaks such as Pichincha, Atacazo, Corazon, Ilinizas, Cayambe, Antisana, Sincholagua, Rumiñahui, and Cotopaxi. If breakfast hasn’t been had, we can pause for a meal in Tambillo or Machachi. As the journey continues, the mountains draw nearer, and there will be opportunities to stop for photographs. YEIH.. Continuing to Cotopaxi province, we traverse the National Park via the Panamerican Highway to Pujili.
- Tigua - This charming town is renowned for its indigenous paintings on lambskin and wooden masks. Feel free to negotiate for a better price on your favorite pieces.
- Zumbahua - An indigenous town located along the road from Latacunga city to La Mana. Here, visitors can stop to sample corn, beans, plantains, or fried pork. Continuing to the right, in 20 minutes, we will arrive at Quilotoa Lagoon.
- Laguna Quilotoa - Quilotoa is a water-filled caldera and the westernmost volcano in the Ecuadorian Andes.
