- Basilica del Voto Nacional - Next, we visit the Basilica of the National Vow, regarded as the most significant neo-Gothic architectural work in the country. Here, we can climb its towers, admire its gargoyles, and explore its interiors, which, according to legend, remain unfinished.
- Plaza de la Independencia (Plaza Grande) - We proceed to Plaza Grande or Plaza de la Independencia, home to the Government Palace (Carondelet Palace), the Municipal building, and the City Cathedral. A short walk brings us to the Church of La Compañía de Jesús, a baroque architectural gem and a stunning example of Quito’s colonial art.
- Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco - Our journey continues to the San Francisco Church, where we’ll delve into the intriguing myths and legends surrounding its construction.
- Calle La Ronda - We then stroll to Morales Street, better known as La Ronda, a vibrant area with colorful houses preserved from colonial and republican times.
- El Panecillo - Our next stop is the Panecillo viewpoint, situated atop the hill of the same name at 3,035 meters above sea level. Formerly known as “shungoloma” or heart hill, it features a large-scale (45 meters) aluminum replica of the Virgin of Quito, sculpted by Quito artist Bernardo de Legarda, with the original displayed on the main altar of the Church of San Francisco.
- Mitad Del Mundo - Finally, we head to the Ciudad Mitad del Mundo Complex (entrance fee not included). Here, our guide will show you replicas of the ancestral homes of Ecuador’s inhabitants and demonstrate unique physical phenomena that occur only at the equator through interactive games. The tour concludes with a return to your hotel.
