The Secret Garden Quito - The meeting point is the Secret Garden Hostel at 11:30 pm the night before the Amazon trip. Here, guests will board the shuttle that will take them through the Andes to the quaint town of Lago Agrio. There will be a stop along the way for a bathroom break and to grab some snacks.

Official Arrival Day in Lago Agrio at Magic Paradise Meeting Point

Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve - Day 1: The group will gather in Lago Agrio at 9:00 am and take private transportation to the entrance of the Cuyabeno Reserve, where a lunch box will be provided. Visitors will register at the Reserve’s office before boarding the canoe. The Naturalist Guide will share information about the Reserve, offer important recommendations, and provide tips for the two-hour canoe journey down the Cuyabeno River to Caiman Lodge. During the ride, guests will catch their first glimpse of the incredible flora and wildlife of the jungle, with the possibility of spotting various monkeys and other animals, depending on the time and weather. Arrival at Caiman Lodge is expected around 3:30 pm, where guests will be shown to their rooms and can relax. After a siesta, the group will leave the camp for a swim in the lagoon and enjoy a stunning sunset, with a chance to see freshwater dolphins. Dinner will follow back at the camp.

Cuyabeno Reserve - A day jungle hike in the Primary Forest will be led by the guide, who will explain the rainforest’s ecology, medicinal plants, and the interactions of flora and fauna in this most biodiverse ecosystem on Earth. In the afternoon, the group will paddle around the flooded Igapo forest near Laguna Grande. If the water level is high enough and guests are interested, they can swim while watching the sunset. In the evening, a motor canoe trip will be taken to search for caimans.

Cuyabeno Reserve, Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve Ecuador, 4 days

Cuyabeno Reserve - The group will travel downstream to the Puerto Bolivar Siona Community, where they will be welcomed by an indigenous woman who will guide them to the yuca plantation to harvest yucas. With the group’s assistance, she will demonstrate the preparation of Casave (Yuca flatbread), a traditional food. Following this, the guide will introduce the group to one of the last four Shamans of the Siona tribe in Ecuador. The Shaman will explain their cosmovision related to the Ayahuasca brew and perform an energy cleansing ritual, singing chants from a millenary Shaman-apprentice oral tradition.

Cuyabeno Reserve

Cuyabeno Reserve - Early morning birdwatching at 5:30 am will be followed by a sunrise and breakfast at the lodge. At 9:30 am, the group will return to the Cuyabeno bridge, where a box lunch will be provided. A shuttle bus will then pick up guests to take them back to Lago Agrio, from where they can return to Quito.
