Bac Sum Pass - Bac Sum Pass is one of the initial major mountain passes on the Ha Giang Loop, providing a stunning introduction to the region’s rugged beauty. Situated between Ha Giang City and Quan Ba, this winding pass extends approximately 8 kilometers and is renowned for its steep curves and scenic vistas. From the summit, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of lush valleys, layered hills, and traditional villages nestled in the landscape. Often enveloped in morning mist, the pass exudes a mystical aura, setting the tone for the adventure ahead. Bac Sum Pass is a favored stop for motorbike riders to rest, capture photos, and admire the challenging yet rewarding road. As the gateway to the Dong Van Karst Plateau, it marks the beginning of more breathtaking mountain roads. Its thrilling curves and natural beauty make Bac Sum an essential highlight of any Ha Giang Loop journey.
Quan Ba Heaven Gate - Heaven Gate in Quan Ba is more than just a scenic viewpoint—it serves as the majestic entrance to the rocky highlands of Ha Giang, perched at about 1,500 m above sea level. From the summit, expansive views of Tam Son Valley unfold—rice terraces, tiny villages, and the symbolic Twin Mountains (also known as Fairy Bosom) drifting in mist. Local legend tells that these rounded peaks were the fairy mother’s breasts, left to nourish her lost child. Many visitors park at a small café to enjoy highland coffee while “cloud hunting”—watching the soft morning fog descend over the valley and hills. Heaven Gate is also a cultural gateway: nearby villages of H’Mông, Tày, and Dao people, along with the bustling Quyết Tiến market on Sundays, add vibrant color and local life to the stunning landscape. It is a magical blend of natural grandeur, folklore, and human culture—all within a 150‑word snapshot.
Lung Tam Village - Lung Tam village, nestled in the Quan Ba district of Ha Giang, is home to the Hmong ethnic community and is renowned for its traditional handwoven linen craft. Set in a peaceful valley along the Mien River, Lung Tam is surrounded by green mountains and terraced fields, creating a picturesque backdrop for cultural exploration. The village has gained recognition for its centuries-old flax weaving techniques, where women skillfully grow, harvest, dye, and weave flax fibers into beautiful, natural linen products. These include scarves, clothes, and tapestries, often featuring intricate Hmong patterns and indigo dye. Visiting Lung Tam offers a rare opportunity to witness the entire linen-making process and interact with local artisans who preserve their heritage with pride. Beyond textiles, Lung Tam also captivates visitors with its tranquil atmosphere, traditional stilt houses, and community spirit.
Yen Minh - The journey to conquer the Ha Giang Loop is an experience not to be missed, with majestic mountain scenery, winding high passes, and unique ethnic minority villages. After traversing roads such as Bac Sum Slope and Quan Ba Heaven Gate, you will arrive at Yen Minh town—an ideal stopover for lunch midway through the journey.
Du Gia - Arrive at Du Gia village around 4 pm. Here, stay with an ethnic minority family at their homestay. Enjoy dinner and breakfast with the family.
Du Gia – Meo Vac – (Ma Pi Leng) – Dong Van (110km)
Meo Vac - Meo Vac, nestled deep within Ha Giang’s Dong Van Karst Plateau, is a rugged, enchanting district of limestone peaks, emerald river valleys, and vibrant ethnic minority culture. The winding “Happiness Road” threads through breathtaking scenery, climaxing at the dramatic Ma Pi Leng Pass at over 1,200 m—offering unforgettable panoramas down to the Nho Que River canyon. Every Sunday, Meo Vac town awakens with its famous market—Ha Giang’s largest—where early-rising locals trade livestock, produce, and handcrafted textiles amid a colorful tapestry of traditional dress. A must-visit for adventurers craving raw beauty and authentic highland life.
Ma Pi Leng Pass - Ma Pi Leng Pass is one of Vietnam’s most awe-inspiring mountain roads, located in Ha Giang Province. Winding along the edge of limestone cliffs at over 1,200 meters above sea level, it offers breathtaking views of the Nho Que River snaking through deep gorges below. Known as the “king of Vietnam’s passes,” Ma Pi Leng is part of the legendary Happiness Road connecting Dong Van and Meo Vac. The pass is not just a scenic marvel but also a symbol of resilience, built by ethnic minorities with bare hands in the 1960s. Visitors come here for the panoramic viewpoints, dramatic landscapes, and the thrilling experience of riding through cloud-kissed peaks and vertical rock walls.
Dong Van - Arrive in Dong Van around 5 pm, check-in to the homestay, and have dinner at a local restaurant. Explore the ancient village, ideal for a relaxing stroll. Located in the Dong Van stone plateau, one of the most beautiful highlands in Vietnam, Dong Van is the cultural and economic center of the stone plateau, with winding small roads and typical ancient houses. Walk around town, explore Dong Van market (if you come on the right market day), and enjoy specialties such as thang co, men men, and buckwheat cake. Stroll through the old streets with traditional stone and wooden houses.
Dong Van – Lung Cu – Vuong Palace– Yen Minh – Nam Dam village (120 km)
Lung Cu Flag Tower - After a delicious breakfast, leave Dong Van Town. The driver and guide will take you to see the loop of Vietnam where the Chinese borderline is visible and visit Vietnam’s national flag tower. Ride for over an hour to reach the flag tower, where you must walk up to the top of the flagpole to see panoramic views and the Chinese borderline, as well as the view of villages at the bottom of the valley. This spectacular landscape offers great photo opportunities. After the loop, return to Dong Van town for lunch.
Dinh Vua Meo - The Meo King’s Palace, also known as the Vuong Family Palace, is located in Sa Phin Commune, Dong Van District, Ha Giang Province. This unique architectural work was built in the early 20th century and was once the residence and workplace of Vuong Chinh Duc—the richest and most powerful Mong leader in the region. The palace features a mixed style of Chinese, French, and indigenous architecture, with yin-yang tiled roofs, sa moc wooden pillars, and intricately carved green stones. Surrounded by pine forests and rocky mountains, it creates a majestic and mysterious space. The palace is an important historical relic, reflecting the life of the Mong aristocracy in the past.
Yen Minh - Stop in Yen Minh Town for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, continue to Quan Ba Heaven Gate.
Nam Dam – Lung Khuy – Tam Son – Ha Giang City, approx 70 km
Lung Khuy Cave - Lung Khuy Cave (Quan Ba Commune, Ha Giang) is known as the “first plateau cave” with its magical and wild beauty in the middle of the Dong Van stone plateau. The cave is about 300m long, located halfway up the rocky mountain, with a diverse stalactite system, crystal white or shimmering gold like a “pearl forest,” a “stone tower,” and even a giant stone instrument. Inside, there is also an iron bridge and a colorful lighting system that makes it easy to visit deeper recesses. According to Mong legend, Lung Khuy means “dragon in the rock crevice”—where the dragon god once appeared to bring rain and protect the sacred well, marrying a Mong girl to create a village at the foot of the mountain. People often come to the cave to ask for water from the god to pray for favorable weather, health, and wealth in the new year.
Quan Ba Heaven Gate - Quan Ba Heaven Gate is a famous stop on the journey to explore Ha Giang, located at an altitude of about 1,500m above sea level. From here, visitors can admire the panoramic view of Tam Son town and especially the Fairy Twin Mountains—two round mountains lying next to each other, considered a symbol of the beauty of highland girls. The twin mountains are associated with a touching legend about motherly love and affection. The scenery at Heaven Gate is both majestic and poetic, with floating clouds, rocky mountains, and winding terraced fields. This is a “check-in” spot not to be missed on the journey to conquer the Dong Van stone plateau. Stop to rest and have a cup of coffee, then continue the journey…
Ha Giang - At the end of the 4-day, 2-night Ha Giang Loop tour, visitors will return to Ha Giang city after an emotional journey through spectacular mountain passes, peaceful villages, and unique cultural experiences of the highland ethnic groups.
