Marrakech - Rabat (Morocco’s Capital)
Kasbah des Oudaias - Rabat, the administrative capital of Morocco, hosts numerous embassies, making it the country’s second most significant city. It is situated on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Bou-Regreg River.
Begin your tour with a local guide at the stunning Kasbah of Oudayas. The term “Kasbah” can refer to a city within a city or a fortified village (Fortress).
Located in Morocco’s capital at the mouth of the Bou Regreg River, the Udayas Kasbah (also known as Oudayas Kasbah) is one of the country’s most distinctive sites. Originally constructed in the 12th century and renovated multiple times over the years, it has housed Arab tribes, Andalusian immigrants, and some of Morocco’s most influential sultans. Ascend the steps to the impressive gate of Bab Oudaya and explore the winding streets of the Kasbah, leading you to Rabat’s oldest mosque, beautiful gardens, and a remarkable museum.
Hassan Tower - Referred to as the “Unfinished Past”
Accompanied by your local guide, visit this site, which is constantly guarded by elaborately dressed royal guards and fez-topped security personnel. Rabat’s two most visited sites stand opposite each other along the magnificent Bou Regreg River. Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V are two of Morocco’s most mystical places: one is an incomplete project of grand proportions, and the other is a masterpiece of modern Moroccan architecture, housing the grand tombs of past kings. Stroll through the ruins of columns and enter the ornamental grandeur of the exquisite mausoleum to uncover a part of Moroccan history that remains incomplete.
In the early 12th century, Sultan Yacoub al Mansour commissioned the construction of the Hassan Tower and its adjoining mosque in Rabat. He had already planned the creation of the iconic Koutoubia Mosque in Marrakech and the restoration of the ancient Udayas Kasbah.
Chellah - The Phoenicians were the first to settle on this sloping site above the Bou Regreg River, and the Romans took control around 40 CE. This magnificent and historical site is known as Chellah.
From 1154, it lay abandoned until the 14th century when a Merinid sultan built a necropolis atop the Roman site. An elegant minaret, now topped by a stork’s nest, is all that remains of a once-impressive mosque, and behind it, the sultan’s tomb, complete with stone carvings and mosaic traces. It is also an evocative setting for the annual Jazz au “Chellah festival” held in September.
Your local guide will provide extensive information about the history of each site.
After an optional lunch in Rabat, the journey continues to the blue pearl of Morocco and the most beautiful city in the north: Chefchaouen.
Rabat - Chefchaouen
Province of Ouezzane - Ouazzane, also spelled Wazzān, is a city in north-central Morocco with a population of approximately 60,000. It is located at the southwestern edge of the Rif Mountains on the northern slope of Mount Bouhelal, at an elevation of 1,066 feet (325 meters). Founded in 1727 as a religious community on the site of a village named Dechra Jabal al-Rīḥān (“Village of the Mount of Myrtles”) by the Sharif Mawlāy ʿAbd Allāh, a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad through the line of Idrīs II. ʿAbd Allāh was revered as a saint, and after his death, his tomb became a pilgrimage site, a center for teaching Sufi doctrines, and a sanctuary. The Sharifs of Ouazzane were among the most powerful religious figures in pre-Protectorate Morocco. They owned extensive lands around the town and were exempt from paying taxes. Cereals and cattle are raised in the vicinity of Ouazzane, and the city also serves as a local market center.
Chefchaouen - Nestled beneath the striking peaks of the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen is considered one of Morocco’s most picturesque towns. Whitewashed homes with red tile roofs line narrow, winding lanes, their walls painted in vibrant shades of blue. Take a private Chefchaouen tour with a friendly local guide and discover firsthand the culture of this fascinating region of Morocco.
Your local guide will lead you through Chefchaouen’s charming Medina, exploring its amazing and unique alleys. Quaint and uncrowded, this part of town offers an excellent opportunity to experience the town’s street life and perhaps practice bargaining skills with a local vendor. In the heart of the Medina is the Plaza Utta el-Hammam, a perfect spot to enjoy a drink at a shady sidewalk café.
Whatever your interest, your guide can design a private Chefchaouen tour tailored to your preferences.
Chefchaouen - Casablanca
Casablanca - Travel directly from the Blue City to Casablanca, Morocco’s largest and bustling city. Wander through its center and admire the many Art Deco buildings.
The city’s elegant Moorish buildings, which blend French-colonial design with traditional Moroccan style, are best appreciated in the downtown area. Visitors who spend time in the Quartier Habous and the beachside suburb of Ain Diab will surely embrace the local vibe and realize that this former pirate lair is looking towards the future, embracing the European-flavored urban sophistication that has characterized life here for the past century.
Travelers will be driven to their chosen accommodation hotel for an overnight stay, allowing them to rest well after the long drive and prepare for an amazing journey in Casablanca before returning to Marrakech for a camel ride in the great palm oasis of the red city, “Palmeraie.”
Casablanca - Marrakech
Hassan II Mosque - Once you obtain your ticket, it includes a guide who will accompany you during your visit.
This magnificent mosque, built at great expense, is set on an outcrop extending over the ocean with a 210m-tall minaret that serves as a city landmark. It showcases the finest Moroccan craftsmanship: hand-carved stone and wood, intricate marble flooring and inlay, gilded cedar ceilings, and exquisite zellij (geometric mosaic tilework). It is one of two Moroccan mosques open to non-Muslims; multilingual guided tours are conducted outside prayer times for modestly dressed visitors. There is also a small museum displaying the craftwork involved.
The mosque can accommodate 105,000 worshippers – 25,000 inside and the rest in the outside courtyards. Built and partially funded by King Hassan II (with the remaining funds gathered through a somewhat controversial public subscription process), the mosque complex was designed by French architect Michel Pinseau, took six years to build, and was completed in 1993.
Morocco Mall - Visit the second-largest shopping center in Africa.
The mall features a massive 1,000,000-liter aquarium containing over 40 different species of fish. The aquarium, called “Aquadream,” was designed and built by International Concept Management (ICM). Visitors can take a ride through the center of the cylinder-shaped aquarium with a 360-degree view of the sea life.
With over 200 brand shops, including some of the most prestigious in the world, you will also find a “Moroccan Souk,” an original concept that reconstructs traditional souks in a picturesque setting.
This impressive mall offers unique leisure activities and diverse cuisine: SPA, Patinoire, Fun Park, and Food Court with around sixty establishments.
The building, entirely covered with skylights and roof glazing, features a central square decorated with a starry sky surrounding a gigantic aquarium.
Palmeraie - Upon returning to Marrakech, travelers will be driven straight to the Palmeraie or “Palm Oasis,” where they can enjoy a 30-minute camel ride if interested, before being taken to their final destination, their accommodation Riad or Hotel in Marrakech. This marks the end of an amazing trip around the beautiful country, leaving travelers with great memories and pictures to share with friends and family.
