- Gljufrabui Waterfalls - Gljúfrafoss is a stunning 40-meter waterfall nestled in a narrow, hidden canyon, just a short distance from Seljalandsfoss. The name Gljúfrabúi translates to “the one who lives in the canyon.” Be prepared to get a little wet, so it’s wise to bring extra socks.

- Seljalandsfoss - Seljalandsfoss is a majestic waterfall on the south coast, featuring a dramatic 60-meter (197 feet) drop. This remarkable waterfall has a unique structure, with cliffs behind it forming a wide cavern, allowing visitors to walk completely around the waterfall from behind.
- Skógafoss - Skógafoss, meaning “forest waterfall” in Icelandic, is one of Iceland’s tallest and most beautiful waterfalls, with a dramatic 60-meter (197 feet) drop. It is one of the few waterfalls that can be viewed from both the top and the bottom.
A unique feature of Skógafoss is the ability to walk, or rather climb, to the top of the hill where the waterfall cascades down, with only 527 steps. From there, visitors can see how the waterfall forms and enjoy a breathtaking view over the waterfall.
The land near the waterfall is very flat, allowing easy access to this unique beauty, offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
- Solheimajokull Glacier - The magnificent Sólheimajökull glacier, or the “Sun Home Glacier” as it is known in Icelandic. Visitors can walk to the glacier, pass the glacial lagoon, and stop in front of the glacier, getting so close that they can almost reach out to touch the green, blue, shiny, ice-cold icebergs.
Sólheimajökull is one of Iceland’s most beautiful outlet glaciers, but it is melting rapidly like many of our glaciers, so enjoy it while you can.
- Reynisfjara Beach - Reynisfjara, also known as the Black Sand Beach, is the most famous of Iceland’s black sand beaches, of which there are many. These beaches form after repeated volcanic eruptions, slowly eroding the lava over thousands and millions of years.
At the Black Sand Beach, visitors will also see the amazing basalt columns. These columns have a special shape due to the way the lava cools, very slowly, cracking into this unique form. It is rare to find basalt columns like this anywhere else in the world.
- Dyrholaey - Dyrhólaey means “Door Hill Island,” but this “island” is one of the best viewpoints over the South Coast. On a clear day, visitors can see the Eyjafjalljökull glacier as well as the Mýrdalsjökull glacier on one side and the Black Sand Beach on the other. The waves of the Atlantic Ocean on either side attempt to erode the land away. Regardless of the weather, a visit here always showcases Iceland’s nature in its purest form.
In summer, this is one of the best places in Iceland to see puffins up close while they visit Iceland.
- Gígjagjá - The Hjörleifshöfði cave, or the “Yoda cave,” is a delightful extra stop near the village of Vík. Visitors can drive on the black volcanic sand to the cave. Whether a Star Wars fan or not, the unique shape of the door is enjoyable for everyone to see.
Note: In winter, this stop may be canceled if there is heavy snow on the track.
- Vik - The charming village of Vík is a must-see when traveling the South Coast of Iceland. It is the southernmost town in Iceland and the only one without a harbor, for reasons that become clear when stopping by the local church, which also offers a beautiful viewpoint over the village and Reynisdranger Sea Cliffs.
