Reykjavík - Landmannalaugar
Landmannalaugar - The tour begins with an early morning departure from Reykjavik, embarking on a scenic drive to Landmannalaugar, which takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, depending on the season. Along the way, enjoy views of the South Coast before entering the Highlands, where Iceland’s most active volcano, Hekla, can be seen.
The starting point for the Laugavegur trek is Landmannalaugar. The hike will take you through Vondugil Canyon and Laugahraun Lava Field, featuring colorful rhyolite mountains and volcanoes like Brennisteinsalda. If time permits, a visit to Graenagil Gorge and Bláhnjúkur Volcano will be included.
The first night will be spent at Landmannalaugar. In the evening, a delightful dinner will be served, allowing for relaxation amidst the beauty and tranquility of Icelandic nature.

Landmannalaugar - Álftavatn
Alftavatn Lake - Day two starts with a hearty breakfast to energize for the ascent through gorges, the Stórihver hot spring area, and yellow mountain ridges. The landscape transitions to the black obsidian desert of Hrafntinnusker, where lunch will be enjoyed. The journey continues with a descent into Jökultungur’s geothermal gullies, painted in vibrant yellow and red hues, offering stunning views of glaciers like Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull. A river crossing leads to the campsite near Álftavatn Lake, where the day concludes with dinner and relaxation by the tranquil waters.

Álftavatn - Emstrur
Emstrur - After breakfast, the day begins with a stream crossing before entering the expansive black sand desert of Mælifellssandur. The route passes the moss-covered volcanoes Stórasúla and Hattafell, which stand out against the dark terrain. Clear weather provides breathtaking views of the Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull glaciers—Eyjafjallajökull’s 2010 eruption is legendary, and Mýrdalsjökull conceals the Katla volcano.
As the trek continues, the impressive Markarfljótsgljúfur Canyon, a 200-meter-deep glacial gorge, comes into view. The day concludes at Botnar, a green oasis in the desert, for dinner and a peaceful evening surrounded by stunning landscapes.

Emstrur - Þórsmörk
Thorsmork - On Day 4, the final leg of the Laugavegur Trail begins, leaving Emstrur’s dramatic landscapes behind as the journey continues toward Þórsmörk. The trail passes through the picturesque Almenningar gorge, with Mount Einhyrningur (Unicorn Mountain) standing majestically in the distance, offering breathtaking glacier views of Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull.
As Þórsmörk approaches, the terrain transforms, with sparse trees giving way to dense birch forests, creating a refreshing atmosphere alive with birdsong. Arriving in this lush valley, surrounded by glaciers and mountains, marks a triumphant end to the renowned Laugavegur Trail.
Afterward, a highland bus will transport the group to Hella, where the night will be spent at a countryside hotel, preparing for the South Coast adventure the following day.

Magni & Modi Volcanic Craters - Fimmvörðuháls Trail
Fimmvorduhals Hiking Trail - The hike to the Magni and Móði volcanic craters takes participants through Iceland’s dramatic and ever-evolving volcanic terrain. Starting in the lush Þórsmörk valley, surrounded by glaciers and towering mountains, the trail ascends into a surreal volcanic landscape shaped by Eyjafjallajökull’s 2010 eruption. Expect black sand plains, sharp lava ridges, and steaming vents along the way, with glaciers providing a stunning backdrop.
At the craters, named after Thor’s sons in Norse mythology, fresh lava fields and jagged rims offer breathtaking views of Mýrdalsjökull glacier and the Highlands on clear days. The trail is moderately challenging, with steep sections and loose gravel, making sturdy footwear and a good fitness level essential.

Þórsmörk - Reykjavík

For those not up for a serious hike, a stroll to Húsadalur might be an option, or simply relaxing around Langidalur before returning to Reykjavík. On the way back to the city, a glimpse of Seljalandsfoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s most popular tourist attractions, can be enjoyed. The return to Reykjavik is scheduled for the early evening, around 6:30 p.m.
