Highly recommended. - This tour is amazing! Fantastic hiking and view is amazing! We walked for 8km for 3.5 hours and then relax in hot pool later. We also have learned something new about geology during the tour. It is highly recommended.

Exhilarating Hike - This is a moderately challenging hike through the Landmannalaugar lava field. My husband and I chose the 4-hour day hiking option. We managed with sneakers, but we really wish we had proper footwear, as there were many steep gravel paths that were tricky to navigate. This is a highly exhilarating hike with ever-changing, diverse landscapes. Highly recommend it. Bring proper mountaineering gear (windbreaker, multiple layers, water bottle, snacks, hiking boots, woolen cap) to enjoy the experience to the maximum!

Even though the weather... - Even though the weather was not ideal we enjoyed this hard to reach hike immensely. The driver was amazing and our guide was knowledgeable. The scenery was other worldly.

Beautiful hike and Warm Springs to soak in !! - This was an excellent trip. It took almost 4 hours to get there from a Reykjavik pickup at 7:00 am. Granted once you got onto the dirt road, it was slow and bumpy, but the scenery was very nice. The long ride was well worth it ! The area was beautiful. Pictures do not do it justice. If you hike up to Brennisteinsalda, it is challenging but doable. The view is unbelievable. My guide was funny, personable and just a joy to be around. The geo thermal spring afterwards felt great. Suggestion:: Bring a bathing suit or shorts and shirt to throw away after soaking in the spring. The hike was suppose to be around 6 miles but due to some of the trails being shut down for the summer, it was only 4.5 miles. That was fine and one got to enjoy the springs a bit longer. Artic Adventures always responded back with my questions. Would highly recommend them and this hike. Thank you !!

Some tough spots but totally worth it! - We did the Landmannalaugar day hike on a beautiful sunny day. There were 2 guides, we were with Guna. She was amazing. Combo of tour guide, safety officer, photographer, cheerleader & educator. Lots of stops to tell us about the geography, legends & just to catch our breath & drink water. Scenery is spectacular! Words can not describe it. There were about 3 tough spots (for me anyway, 70yrs old), but Guna was always right there to help & encourage. For younger people it was a stroll in the park :) Hot springs at the end of the hike. You walk on a boardwalk over marshy land to the river. 2 structures to store your stuff (or hide behind to change clothes). There is also a large bathroom/ shower area by the parking lot where you can change clothes before walking over the boardwalk. River was deeper than I expected but I think the depth changes dependant on time of year. All in all, a fantastic experience!!! Highly recommend! Oh yeah, I almost forgot the bus ride. 1.5 hours over a dusty, bumpy gravel road on a hot bus. Totally worth it for the results you get at the end.

Other-worldly spectacular day - Wonderful hike. . Gorgeous scenery. Stops to pick up participants and use facilities and grab something to eat on ride to Landmannalaugar. Gummie, our guide told us interesting information about Iceland along the way. The roads in the mountains were bumpy at times. We stopped a few times in the park for spectacular sites before getting to the hike. The hike was about 1.5 hours and moderately challenging in a few areas because slushy snow was on a steep area of the mountains and coming down steep inclines, but it was doable and Gummie was a great guide. Waiting at beautiful vistas for stragglers to catch up while allowing the others to admire the views and creating steps in the snow to make it easier for those after him. The rock formations and colors on the mountains were unbelievable. Along the way steam would rise from the ground. The disk in the geothermal spring was other-worldly, surrounded by lava rock with flowers growing through and a mist from the steam rising! I got beautiful photos from the day.

Too beautiful to capture in words or photos. You'll want to go again! - A great way to get your feet wet with Icelandic hiking. We had been in craters and inside a volcano, and this was the time to climb the opposite direction towards the sky! Guna was a fantastic guide who kept close watch over the group and shared a lot of information about the area with us. My travel mates are capable hikers, but visiting Iceland for the first time and not familiar with Landmannalaugar, having a guided group for our first excursion here was worth it. The hike isn't terribly technical, but it's moderately long and does scale a mountain, so anyone doing this should be in good health. The hike is paid off with breathtaking views of the painted mountains, largest obsidian field in Iceland, and surrounding landscapes.

Make sure to purchase the transportation!! - Landmannalaugar is an absolutely beautiful place to discover! It feels like you could be on another planet. It is so unique. Truly otherworldly! So much incredible, geology, and adaptive plant life. It is, however, very difficult to get to on your own without a large, high, 4 x 4 vehicle to cross the rivers. The southern route has three river crossings at the time of this writing. As I understand it, the northern route has many more rivers. Both roads are NOT allowed or covered under rental car insurance. If you own your vehicle, and are knowledgeable about four-wheel driving on trails, I’m sure it would be a blast. If not, it is extremely risky and dangerous. For these reasons, if you are traveling from outside Iceland, purchase the transportation offered AT the time of booking. Viator, as a third-party, should have some notification, disclaimer, more importantly, a responsibility to fully inform. That being said, Landmannalaugar is undeniably worth a visit. It’s like nothing else you will ever see. It looks just like the photograph and more!

Harder then expected - My cousin and I did this hike yesterday and it was ALOT harder than expected. Our guides were very informative and helpful. Be prepared to hike a mountain 2,000 feet above sea level. I’m very surprised by the range of ages we saw along this hike. The bus ride is bumpy but you’re driving almost an hour through lava rock. The views were worth the struggle to get to the top (for me personally) definitely something you won’t see anywhere else.
